White fluff at base of growing mushrooms

Hey so my mushroom substrate managed to reach the final stage and grew a few beautiful mushrooms but the base of all of them is covered by this white fluffy stuff, I'm not sure if it's just more mycelium or apart of the mushrooms or something else? Your expert opinions would be appreciated, thank you.

Them are referred to as fuzzy feets. it's just the mycelium crawling up the stipe generally due to slightly insufficient Fae or just some time some cultures do that.

Should I be digging into it to see if I can get more stem? Also when I wash the cake off for another flush should I rip that bit off or leave it on?

Don't dig at it. It's fine to eat. Don't rinse your shrooms, the actives are water soluble.

Really doubt you'd lose any potency from rinsing a mushroom in cold water for a few second. Plenty of people rinse spores off with no noticeable difference but regardless it's not needed here.

Gave a friend some fruits that decided to wash them because he was a dumbass and didn't listen to me then complained they didn't work, next time he didn't wash them.

Condolences to your friend but I don't think their single experience outweighs what other people have been doing for years. It's not like the active compounds are all contained on the outer layer of the fruit. That's also why tea consumption methods use hot water to break down the cell walls. Cold water isn't gonna do much.

Just cut as close to the substrate as you can when harvesting, not above the "white fuzz" line. The fuzzy feet are fine and will disappear completely once in the dehydrator anyway.

I don't think anyone's talking about soaking mushrooms for 24 hours here. We're talking about a quick rinse with cold water.
