Easy steamer/pastuerizer for bulk subs

Ok so I'll write this up I made mine with liloldmes help years ago .. and there are others out there that are even more bad ass then mine but its simple and you can use it just about any living situation .. fit to your needs ..
So you will need a digital temperature controller like so
And an outlet

Then you will need a 25 amp contact relay or contactor
Also some cpvc which has a higher temp rating then PVC..
You will need one of these as well
And then either the Wagner 715 or 705 wall paper steamer the difference is really the hose and the lid I like the 705 for easier refill but I took the rubber stopper out of the 715 and it's good also cheaper for the 715 by like 20$
I'm not going to post pics of a tub cause you can by the size you need I get 80+ 3qt spawn bags in a 55gallon or about 16, 12to15 qt mono type spawn bags ... so depending on how much sub you need you can buy that size tub.. but you do need 2 to stack them inside each other for more insulation ..
What you wanna do is the tub that will be holding your sub drill about 10 holes or so in the very bottom with at least a 1/4" drill bit so the water will drain to the tub it sits in ..
You will also need to cut a hole at the bottom like so (this tub is 3 years old and I'm making a new one soon Haha) Remember to offset the 2 holes you drill for the cpvc pipe to give you spacing in between the tubs.. I didnt and it's a bitch to get the lid on and off .. plus water leaks after the third refill of the steamer.. you can put some make shift spacers under the tub that goes inside like 2x4 or a brick under each corner..
This is partially loaded after a cook I like to wrap a thick blanket around it to help insulate as well .
So I dont run my temp probe with coir but here's how I used to with poo it's a little dark but I drilled the hole at the top .. I usually would put about 1 foot of cord in ... Now I just turn it on and I'd say 4 or 5 water refills it's pretty much all cooked it takes roughly 2 hours to empty the tank .. but if you need to pasteurize you set your probe to say 152 and 155 .. when it gets to 155 it turns off once it falls on 152 it turns on .. this is why you need the contactor to save yourself a popped breaker ..
Here is my ghetto electrical box for organizing Haha hooking these up is pretty easy once you figure out the ins and outs. .. so you have your 2 hot wires and a neutral for the wall plug .. hook up one to each side of the contactor and as you can see the neutral ties straight to the plug outlet.. take some extra wire and run those coming out of the other end of the contacter to the outlet again it doesnt really matter ..
Now for your temp controller you should have 2 white, 1 black and 1 green .. the black one goes in to the same terminal as the wall plug ..
2 white put them both into a female wire connector and plug them into the terminal next to where the black wire and wall plug wire is ..
underneath the second wall plug wire.. connect your neutral wire into the terminal that resembles mine see how it is in the middle like inside where the other side is kind of like the outside.?? (I know I'm probably confusing everyone now Haha) .
I can't think of the proper terms it's been awhile since I did any of this shit but there's a power in and power out we are working the power in right now ..
now take another wire and hook up a connector on both sides of it.. run one right underneath where the wall plug and black wire for your temp controller are on the male end .. run it to the opposite side of where your green wire is .. you can see this side better in the picture..
Set your temps as I stated before to when you want it to start and stop . ..
And that should be it hook like a phone charger or something up to check if it works properly.. just put a flame to the probe to heat it up and cool it it should pop on and off...
If you need help just ask and if anyone wants to clean up my shitty explanations they are more then welcome Haha hope it helps

Yeah a barrel works well.. natedogg has a nice write up on one he built but I am not sure if it's any cheaper or even that it would hold more, 55 gallons is 55 gallons.. i think those tubs cost me 50 $ total i can't remember ..
I need to make a self filling bucket with a toilet float..

Do you run grain in that thing or is it just for subs? If so how long do you run grain for and how do you prep it?

I did the same thing but with a freezer. Also i elected to get a water heating element of amazon instead of buying a wagner. They i fixed it in the bottom of a metal five gallon bucket (the kind they sell lacquer thinner in) and piped the steam into the freezer.

Yeah I bought a 1500watt element as well I was going to do the same with its own refill system like a stainless steel toilet float ..
The wagner is hook up ready though and easier if you're not going to pasteurize then all the electrical is pointless just plug it into the wall ..

cool build. exactly the sorta shit i do.
one thing tho. so i feel like i'm always the guy shitting on people's technicalities. sorry about that. the contactor you linked has a 24v coil, which is wired here with 120v. this basically means the coil is getting too hot while in operation and will likely fail earlier than you'd like. for all i know, it could work forever, but the coil says 24v for a reason.
you either want a contactor with a 120v coil, or a 120>24v transformer between the controller and coil.

Found Bods tek of cococoir with addition of hot water, let sit over night, stir in colonized grain, done! Works fine. Even with inconsistent temperature and lighting causing delayed colonizing and fruits, no contam became present.

This is more for hpoo... I used to use shit by the truck load I just use it now for my coir and bags cause I dont want 1000 buckets laying around ..
If I linked a 24then that's my fault I couldn't find the one I bought since it was so long ago but thanks for pointing that out .. I will try to find a proper contactor and link it I honestly dont know much about electrical any how Haha
Basically that is to take the surge off the main socket so it doesnt pop the breaker going on and off ..
This has made 1000's of tubs for me and still is going strong
