HEPA filter selection to go with old cage fan for laminar flow hood?
    #25700915 - 12/24/18 07:16 PM (5 years, 1 month ago)

I know its almost impossible to get the specs of a squirrel cage fan if they arent provided by the manufacturer. I have an old fan I'd like to use for a flow hood. I'm wondering if someone could recommend a ballpark filter size to get and then I can dial down flow with a rheostat or extra pre-filters. Its a 1/4hp motor turning at 1725rpm, and with the pulley ratios the fan is spinning at 862rpm. The inlet for the fan is 8" in diameter. The outlet of the fan is rectangular. 10"X6.5" The actual fan cage that spins is 8" in diameter and 9" wide.

If anyone is running a similar fan, what size HEPA filter are you running with it?

Thanks.

You can get a flow meter for 40$ or so, and see what it puts out. It's far cheaper than getting the wrong filter and trying to return it.

Perfect. I didnt know such a thing existed. When im converting from mph to cfm with one of the online calculators, i assume i use the outlet dimensions of the fan for the duct sizing?
