Can I use Bod's Coir substrate tek on BRF bakes?
    #24566471 - 08/20/17 12:46 AM (6 years, 5 months ago)

I just came across Bod's teks tonight ... it's both great and at the same time I have to admit I been wasting so much money and time when I could have made growing simpler had I seen these teks!

So I currently have 9 BRF cube jars (3 chile, 3 brazil, 3 meztizo), they are 1 week away from being ready to colonize.
I usually i dunk and roll and use a SGFC.  I get ok results, nothing like Bod's pics.

Was wondering if I could break up the mycelium, then use your Coir substrate and use the Bucket tek to fruit them and get a good result?

Is it possible to use BRF cakes as spawn?

Yes ,dunk them as normal and crumble N mix with coir(no need to add verm in your sub since your cakes are 2/3rds verm) and follow the rest of the tek.
Straw would be another great sub i think to use with cakes

Yes, if all the cakes are clean it should give better results.  If you have one dirty cake, it will shit on your whole grow.  That's the tradeoff.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister.  I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave.  I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent.
Triggered yet?

I agree with the above poster over the principle affect that one dirty cake could have on your entire grow.  The solution would be to divide up the cakes, and make several small tray cultures, and fruit them in a shotgun terrarium, or greenhouse.  Heck, an Ohmatic monotub can be used as a fruiting chamber for small tray cultures.  I disagree with the above poster who states to still dunk cakes if they are to be spawned, or cased.  Dunking gets the cakes a little too saturated for spawning to bulk, or casing comfortably.  Dunking cakes before spawning to bulk or casing creates a vector for contamination, because when the mycelium is saturated like that it won't recover (if at all, worst case scenario) until it dries up some (if at all) which could take up to 3 days.  Saturated myce bits all through out the substrate, or casing allots a window of time & opportunity for infection to take hold, and bloom also.  Dunking is great for fruiting cake as cakes though.
