Question for those who use 4" Parafilm M

So when you guys are using the 4" roll of Parafilm M, do you cut all the strips you'll need before you start working, and then use them as you go along? Cut them as you need them from the roll kept off to the side? Wipe it down with ISO or no?
Might seem like a silly question but I had been using a 1" roll of the parafilm grafting tape. The nice thing about this was I could wipe down the whole roll of tape and then leave it in the sterile airflow.
I'm just having trouble figuring out how much i need to worry about the tape coming off the roll, and whether it makes sense to cut strips ahead of time, or if cutting as i go works just as well.

I have 3 inch, I fold in half so it doesn't cover the surface of the trays. This way I can watch the growth.

Hmm. Yeah not what I mean. With the 4" roll you can just cut a thin strip off it and that will wrap the whole plate.
I'm just curious as to if people pre-cut their strips or not. Just trying to accelerate the learning process for myself for better techniques.

I use the 2" wide rolls and cut them into 1" strips, 5" long.

Sometimes I don't even do that, I just use whatever strips are laying around; as long as it keeps the lid on I think you're good to go.

Yes, it is what we wrap our dishes with to seal them.

They need GE too right, PF? So you don't want to totally seal them?
I have gotten away with just a couple small strips to keep the lid on and never had them contaminate as far as I know. I'm stingy with my parafilm because it is really expensive.
Just a small gap in the parafilm anywhere would allow enough GE I bet.

Parafilm allows for GE even if wrapped around the entire dish. I have the 4" wide roll. The squares on the paper are 2" x 2", I cut off a 1" strip (that's 4" wide like the roll) and that lets me wrap all the way around the dish.

Good to know!
I'm still going to stick with my tiny strips to conserve, it has yet to fail me. I think people get a little carried away sometimes with trying to be sterile.

Sounds like folks pre cut?
Or am I worrying about nothing and either will work so long as I'm not dragging my arms around or over my work constantly?

They make dispensers (which are expensive as fuck, something like $50 or more for one), so I guess technically you should snatch a piece off as you're about to use it. I'm using it sparingly right now, have a roll of cut up glad wrap that I was trying to use up first, cause what else am I going to do with a roll of saran 6" wide.

is parafilm supposed to be tape-like? I ordered some for wrapping my dishes but I think I got a shitty brand or something because it has no adhesion at all. It's like a rubber belt that just unrolls and stretches. I wrapped it around the dish's circumference but it wasn't even sticky n tight enough to hold itself together or the lid to the base.

That is how its supposed to be, it will stick to your dishes just fine; no adhesive required.
Edit: My bad, I didn't even finish reading your post... It must be some cheap stuff if it doesn't work like Parafilm. Parafilm is the name of the brand.

After reading your post I looked up prices for parafilm. Holy shit man, I've been totally taking the stuff for granted. My lab has boxes of the stuff lying around and I thought nothing of it!
