ABM bags
    #18000422 - 03/23/13 06:20 PM (10 years, 10 months ago)

I felt like punishing myself so I decided to try some ABM.  These have been colonizing sawdust and bran for about a month.

Are they like lions mane -- ie never really looking 100%?

I'm wanting to case them.

They are getting very fluffy on the top but still have spots in the bag that do not look finished at all.

Any advice would be appreciated!

today i knocked up 23 bags with abm.  i have had similiar problems with them stalling but always on composted poo.  this time i decided to try enriched sawdust.  The strain i have does great on grain.  I had to scrape it out of the jars...  keep me posted I will do the same.  one question?  hows ur temperature...

THanks AV.  It's been colonizing around 70 degrees on a side table in the kitchen.

This is about a month of growth.

I feel like I've heard people keep them in bags longer, like 2-3 months.  But I might be confusing it with shitake.

Javadog has some ABM grows; perhaps he'll chime in.  Mycelio too.

23 bags of abm sounds like heaven to me.

I threw some on agar yesterday.  My first attempt was pitiful.  Looking forward to your results M.

Here is my last attempt.  PRetty sad really.  It was Daddy Petes composted cow manure, sawdust and a bit of blood meal, gypsum, dolomitic lime.  I eventually buried it in my yard but nothing ever came of it.  It colonized half way then stalled.  I think it became anaerobic at some point.  I am dying to try one.  Never have but with 20 plus bags, i am hopeful.

Try ABM on partially decomposed grass clippings and/or spent oyster substrate.
Sterilize the substrate and pasteurize the casing.
IME there is no need to add soil bacteria.
A simple pasteurized casing will do just fine.

Thanks.  Maybe next time; it's a little late for these bags!!  Since they are mostly colonized already.  I may put a compost and forest soil casing on them (pasteurized).  I just don't know when to do it.

I also wonder what the bottom end temp wise is for fruiting these. I started now in the hopes of cracking then outside during July. Then casing them. But our nights get in the 60 s year round.
