BLEWIT on WBS * update 5/30
    #17566769 - 01/18/13 08:37 AM (11 years, 11 days ago)

 I have one agar jar of Blewit going!

I don't know what to do with it!

Some advice needed

I am taking one of my plates to a grain master of WBS.

UPDATE 2/7

I've had some other projects taking up my time!  Sorry.  This is a picture of the fully colonized jar.  The mycelium was growing up the sides!

I took a transfer to a WBS jar.

UPDATE 2/18

So it looks like the mycelium is starting to colonize.  You can see I transffered on 2/7...

Slow grower lol.

Well, that's about all the excitement.  See you in a few!

Ya I was gonna try to fruit it, but I have no idea how! lol.  I need to do some research.

And I really need to update my lab equipment and get some test tubes to make master slants!

I have pink oysters going now.  If you want a live tissue culture I'll gladly send one!

I read somewhere they do great in compost outdoors. But I really would like to see them fruited out indoors. Props!

Thanks for the good word Pseudo.  That thread was interesting....esp.
since I started out with such an amazing contam.  lol.

Only one cultivator posted a successful indoor blewit, one small fruit,
but it received the praise that it deserved.

...and, as above, a compost sub would like have a better chance
of fruiting than one of coir, but I am likely getting beyond myself.

Good luck,

JD

It's been 3 days since transfer, and I literally see no growth.

Good luck,

So it's now been almost 5 months.

The Blewit is still growing!  I would say the jar is about 50% colonized.

Imagine twisting the jar....

So... ya.  This mushroom grows slow as hell.  Its taught me alot about moisture content in jars, that's for sure.

At some point, I will likely be fighting a contam on the uncolonized grains,
but even this does not mean that it will not finish.

Good luck, and thank you for the update.

BTW: My blewit blocks were either retired or buried.  I will try again. :0)

you may find faster growth on hardwood/softwood chips/sawdust. Thats where I usually see them growing in the wild and there so many I cannot believe its a slow growing culture.

Cool project!
