Its ok but it compromises the dry verm filter layer, obviously....Seems like you are doing well though. Next time, if you do PF tek just steam them in a pot or PC them at like 3 PSI for 90 minutes and you won't have that problem of shrinking and the filter falling down the sides.

No need for humidifiers unless you have like a greenhouse. Everything depends on what you're doing. Making a small monotub type deal? Or are you making like giant cakes? Filling pans? What will be the fruiting chamber?

I wanted to use a portable plastic closet as the fruiting chamber with trays of bulk substrates and the mushrooms growing in them and the closet is hooked up to a cool mist humidifier with a hose and yeah haha

Oh ok cool, so it's basically a greenhouse. Follow the tek if it's proven. I haven't read all of that tek before and it is 4 years old. Study it up and weed out any bad info that may there. Good luck

It is normal for the dry verm layer to fall between the glass and the cake. Your cake will shrink/cook a little bit and that will happen. This is one reason why you need at least a 1/2 inch of verm. The thicker the layer, the better. Main thing is to not keep messing with the jars. If that verm layer is not solid, it will move around and allow any contams to fall onto the cake. Where are your pics?
