I need more fresh air in small closet. Cut a hole in the door? * 1
    #14959305 - 08/22/11 01:00 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Ok so I have a big boxed fan. I need more fresh air while still maintaining high RH. if I open the door for fresh air the humidity drops 30% after a few hours. I was considering cutting a hole in the door and stick the fan in the hole. My question is this, do u think the stale air from the closet will leave the room without the door being open and the fan in the door?

What's the difference between opening the door and cutting a "big boxed fan" sized hole in it?

You're going to get best results with open doors and a fan in the room, pointing away from the closet. If that's not an option then uh.....Cutting a hole in the door seems to be a radical solution to me, but it could work. However, i assume you need the door closed for stealth? Wouldnt a hole in the door be something of a giveaway that something isnt right?

It's because of RH. If the door is open the RH escapes. But if only a hole is cut in the door I will get the desired effects of the fan without to much RH escaping, at least I hope.

Pointing away for the closet? This sounds like you want me to use the fan to take out the o2 out the room. So the fan is not blowing into the room but using the air from the room and blowing it out side the closet. Am I right?
And no it's not because of stealth it's because leaving the door open takes to much RH out of the room. Thanks everyone!

Air flow is proportionate to the amount of exhaust. If air cannot escape the closet, then I think less air flow will be able to come in due to pressure build up. Therefore, I'm not sure your idea of cutting a hole in the door will work the way you want it to.

However, if you're only using the fan a few minutes at a time, a few times a day, then maybe it will work. I think we need more information.

No, I'm just regurgitating information i found here and have found to be useful myself. I can't tell you why, or what the fan does, all i can say for sure is pointing a fan directly at your fruiting tubs is not a good idea. That's why i say point it away from the closet.

I run my fan 24/7 to keep stagnant air at a minimum it might not be necessary but it has been a hot summer here and honestly, i think it's helping my jars speed up a little but that  could just be my wishful thinking.

If your closet has wide gaps between the door and the frame air will escape if you have air blowing in from a hole. If you do not need to hide your grow make a SGFC, if you dont have one allready, and use that. If you are useing a SGFC and still the RH drops when you open the door you may have too maney holes and you might have to make  anouther one. If you must use a fan with the door shut drill a few small holes about the length of your fan at the bottom of the door and drill a few at the very top of your door to let air out and just lean your fan at the bottom against the door.  Good luck.

What kind of FC? With a monotub or SGFC you won't need to worry about the RH inside dropping, and you could just open the door.
