Can anyone honestly say.....

That psychedelic drugs have had a general positive effect on their life or made them into a better person? Can you honestly say you wouldn't be the person you are today if it wasn't for psychedelics?
IMO after a trip I am back to my usual self within a few weeks and still have the ability to be an ass hole. Maybe I still haven't had a strong enough experience yet but I don't feel like psychedelics change me permanently unless I choose to change myself.

You just answered your own question. I think the psychedelics don't change you but they can give you the motivation to change yourself.

Not to get all Jeff Goldblum , but the first step in changing anything in your life is to see it from another perspective. Definitely can be done without psychedelics, however it is much easier.
Also, we are who we want to be. If you are an asshole (not saying you are...just if), don't wish to be, and yet still end up being one. Then perhaps deep down you really just like being an asshole...nothing wrong with that. Change comes from within and psychedelics help you delve into yourself. Just

Psychedelics definitely changed me, but that change came from within.... It is more like they opened my mind to change and then very gently pushed me onto the path of self betterment but I had to walk the path myself....
If that makes sense

Psychedelics can be the catalyst for the kind of experience that makes a person want to change.
I also think you really only need 1 or 2 good trips to get the general message psychedelics give off. I'm not saying everybody should only trip 1 or 2 times, but I think if every stable, open minded person with a trusted and competent guide/trip sitter had one single psychedelic experience in their lifetime, it could help them to be a better person.

Solidified my morals and made me thirsty for knowledge. I havent done them in over a year and I still feel they had/have a big impact on who I am.
On op of that, hunting for them and growing them is an awesome experience itself and has effected me in positive ways.
One of my goals on my bucket list is to find treasure. Going out and finding half lb patches of cyans at a time is the closest feeling to that I've had and I think it's awesome.
Nothing but good has come from them for me so I believe they have had a rather large impact.

I agree with you on that one. Since I started hunting I have spent a lot more time outside appreciating nature, looking for good spots and going on long hikes. The feeling of awesomeness when you find a large amount of psychoactive mushrooms is almost better then when you get to consume them.

i stopped getting black out drunk every single night after a mushroom trip back in march. mushies wore off went to bed. next day no desire at all to get completely hammered. i still have a beer or 2 every few days or maybe a gin and tonic but now i actually enjoy a little buzz and i can leave it at that. it saved my job i'm on call 2 nights a week(water company nothing medical)so drinking those nights is a bad idea and my relationship with my girlfriend of 3 years. i'd say thats pretty positive.

Psychadelics COMPLETELY changed me for the better. I used to be a very prudish judgemental person, a few trips a few mdma pills later i was a changed man and that was 10+ years ago. I look back at the person i used to be and i cant even imagine being that way at some point. even my long time friends acknowledge the dramatic change for the better in me. back then they thought it was just a phase but as i said its already been 10+ years. =)

Like everyone else said, eating mushrooms or whatever isn't going to "change" you over night. But it's certainly going to show you a lot that you might not have been able to see before, for whatever reason.
I do believe that psychedelics have changed my life for the better, not by instantly changing me, but (like someone else said) being a catalyst for change. The first time I did shrooms, I had two important realizations: that I wasn't a complete idiot, and that people only have one mother.
But the shrooms aren't what got me through a semester of college with straight A's after failing twice previously and getting terrible grades in high school. And the shrooms didn't help me patch up the shitty relationship I had with my mom. I did. They just showed me that it was possible, I guess.

I dont want to drink alcohol because of shrooms/ecstasy and now to smoke water pipe as well But also they have made me more calm, and crack my little addiction to computer games, that now feel to pointless to play for long time.
So I'd say they have been good for me

yes.
i can still be an asshole too. but the awareness, irony and remorse of same are more acute than before.
or maybe i just started eating mushrooms around the same time that i became serious about self improvement, so the effects of the mushrooms are indistinguishable to me from those of coincident efforts. intentions are powerful. but i don't think it's the whole story. i think of mushrooms as a catalyst and lubricant for change. they don't force change, but they help enable it.

yes and no.
yes because they got me into biochemistry, which i am now pursuing as a career.
no because my personality and morals are the exact same as they were prior to using them.

I think yes for sure psychedelics have changed me in several ways actually. One being that I have been diagnosed with HPPD which is in fact due to psychedelics. The way I perceive human beings as a whole, I never was able to look upon people with such a detailed acuity as I do now since I started taking psychedelics. I do admit HPPD is sometimes a burden but my newfound preception is a God sent. I think everyone that has a relationship with psychedelics has in a way a kind of love hate relationship with it.

That is who you are. I have a similar case, not that Im an asshole, just that I realized that we are only in this "game" (life) for a short period. We are a simple thought process and once its over, its over. You need to make the best of it, how YOU want. Dont let others tell you to do something, dont let others make you feel bad. Do what you want to do. Tripping around some old friends made me realize I hate them, so I found new ones and I LOVE them

Yes, it has. Helped me deal with a lot of emotional baggage, find myself and has led to me being a better person.
The question you should be asking, is 'Why are you taking psychedelics?' If it's cause you want to get high, that is what you get. If you are doing it for the experience, again, that is what you get. If you are using them for a goal, a purpose, then perhaps you will be changed...
This gets all the way back to the basics... Set and setting... The Set, is you.

Well no ones knows how life would be like if they hadn't done any psychedelics but I can say that they have been a positive part of my life and I am forever grateful for their many blessings. But it all starts from within. If you are an asshole, psych's aren't going to cure your asshole-ishness, that comes from within. Like others have mentioned, they can be a catalyst for change by giving you a different perspective on your life, seeing it in a different light so to speak.
It upsets me sometimes when I see people posts threads where they discuss how they thought that by taking psychelics (often times abusing them) they would be enlightened to the universe, see god, and be awesome people and in reality they complain that they have made there life worse and that they have no job, that theyre unsuccessful, still living at home etc. But when it comes down to it these drugs aren't a shortcut, or a miracle pill. You have to be the change you want, you have to put in the work and effort to be what you want and to get what you want out of this life-plain and simple. These drugs can help you but only if you let them. To blame the drugs for one's personal shortcomings in life is unfair and just another way for lazy people to avoid any responsibility in life.
