hello, I have found a mountain of scallop shells on a farm, anyone know if i can replace the oyster shells in my 50/50 peat/verm mix with this.

It's been a month since you first asked.  You could of done it a month ago, and been posting the results now.

I'm sure they will add allot of calcium carbonate.
After you grind them check the pH, and use them at the same ratio as you would
use oyster shells.

Post up the results.

There's little use for egg shells, calcium carbonate in powder form, oyster shells, etc., in a casing mix.  They might provide a bit of texture, but verm does that even better.  If you want a pH correction, use hydrated lime at roughly a teaspoon per cup of peat moss.

Crushed shells take awhile to make any buffering differnce,better off to use tums or something like that
