need help identifying a shroom
    #14752102 - 07/11/11 03:50 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Habitat:
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.
In my front yard, near two oak trees and two pine trees. There are also some growing closer to my house near a bush, Northern Florida climate. Btw it has been raining a substantial amount the last few weeks if that makes any difference for this type of mushroom.

Gills:Vibrant highlighter yellow, and spongy, very spongy
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.

Stem: Thick and yellow
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.

Cap: Brick red in color with the cap upturning and curling inward (unlike a portabello which is down turning inward)
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

Spore print color: Unknown
Very important!

Bruising: It turns blue upon bruising
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

Other information:

Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

Are there actually Boletus sp. that bruise and are also edible?  If so I'd be learning something new today.

Yeah there are. I eat the blue-bruising ones that I find and I've not had any problems.
