How long is steak good for after bought from the butcher?

The meat is located in a specialty store. It's not prepackaged(so no expiration date) and it's sitting in a glass display(refrigerated I assume). I'm guessing it's pretty fresh.
If I were to guess I'd say a week maybe longer if stored in a refrigerator? But how much longer? 2 weeks, 3 weeks at the most? I don't really don't know.
If I were to ziploc freezer bag them they would stay fresh for longer but I much longer? A month? Will freezing them reduce quality/taste?
I plan on getting around 10 New York Strip steaks that's why I'm asking. Any help would be greatly appreciated

My wife won't even let me try, the wimp.
I often buy a whole strip or shell or filet, cut it up and freeze individual packets. They will be fine as long as your freezer is good and you use them within a month or so. I think they start to lose their mojo after about a month or two.

I never left steaks in the fridge but I left ground beef on the bottom rack for a week in a plastic bag inside of the butcher wrapping. It smelt fine and it was still mostly pink with a brown spot or two. I guess it depends on the butcher and where you store it in your fridge.

There is no special place in my refrigerator and that's where I want to store them. I'm gonna try my luck by eating 10 @ 1 per day for 10 days and hopefully the last few still taste the same as the rest of them.

I'm a butcher...
You would be surprised how long meat can last when treated properly.
We often have fresh kill meat sit in our cooler for up to 40 days. This meat is properly handled and vacume sealed in less than an hour after slaughter.
Generally, anything you buy from the butcher should be safe for up to 5 days. I recommend only 3 days to my customers but I have kept meat around for a week with no problems many times.
Ground meats are not to be trusted! Use them within 48 hours or freeze for your safety.

This man knows his shit! GREAT ADVICE!
if your going to freeze them wrap them in plastic wrap then ziplock them (and try to get all the air out) to help prevent freezer burn. if your have a vacuum sealer use that. don't forget to date label and date, and rotate!

Why don't you want to trust the ground meats? I had mine sitting there for a week and it was good. I know my butcher doesnt use offals in the ground beef.

Because ground meats are almost always made from meat that is past its prime. It is still good meat but it is usually older meat and should always be treated as such.

Exactly. Think of what happens to fungus when you shake your mushroom jars. Now apply that to bacteria and meat.
One time a couple of years ago I got some freshly butchered venison backstrap from my neighbor. I turned the temp in the mini-fridge down to about 34°F, and marinaded that shit for about 3 weeks.
Then I made jerky out of it, which was stupid, and a waste of really good venison backstrap.
I mean, it was really good jerky, but it was just way too easy to eat. Jerky is supposed to be tough.
