Trouble Germinating

Expert growers,
I am having trouble germinating spores from syringes. These are Penis Envy from Rich Hawk. I have germinated these successfully before on rye grain, but this time, when I tried to do so, I had problems with bacteria, so I switched to corn. I used popcorn from the grocery store, store brand. After I cooked the corn for about 45 min., I drained well, then mixed with vermiculite in a 10/1 ratio (4 cups cooked corn/ 1/2 cup verm). I then sterilized via pressure cooker, let cool and injected. Its been 5 days, and no fuzzy white, no contamination, no bacterial smell, nothing.
It frustrates me because I have germinated spores successfully many times before, but this is the first time I have used corn. Is it possible that I used too much vermiculite? Is store brand popcorn insufficient? Did I cook too long or not long enough? None of these things seem like they would lead to no growth. If anyone is experienced working with corn, I would appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

Germination can take easily over a week, at five days you have nothing to worry about. Come back at day 11 or so if you have no signs of germination.

Yep, as the others said, it's not time to worry yet.
Also, if you're having problems with bacteria, you might want to question the syringe, or perhaps your preparation of the grain. Sounds like you could have been getting the rye too wet.

yeah, I've been reading about popcorn and I've heard it takes maybe 14 days. But on rye it was always about 3-5, so I got a little worried, maybe prematurely.

Hey, thanks for the info. Could you tell me how I might make sure that the rye doesn't get too wet. Because I'm about 90% sure that this was the problem. Thanks

How old is the syringe you used? The germination ability of spores decreases quiet fast and as you can imagine, a once vital syringe can lose all it's "magic" when it gets old.
In addition, bunk shots happen

Probably made your jars to dry then. If you mix that much verm in, you need a bit of water..verm soaks up ALOT of water for its size. I sometimes put verm in a jar..but its a small handfull..less then 1:20 ratio..like 1/8 inch on the bottom. Id bet they'll germinate and colonize it..probably take extra time. Injecting sterile water could help..but could ruin it. I'd leave them and start some new ones too.
