Rye , Quart Jar, Question?

Okay, I got 2 rye jars, pre-sterilized shipped to me (contest I won, thanks MM). The jars have no polyfill or holes in them, they DO have a filter disc under them.
My question is, well...can I remove the lid, make holes in them, and place it back on without risking contamination? Or what else should I do

You can inoculate your jars by removing the filter discs and putting your spore solution or other inoculate right in the jars. Don't poke holes in the filter discs. You need to work quickly and in a very clean environment, the oven tek works very well.

I wish I could, but it's a long drive, and you know what traffic is like this weekend. Plus right now I'd get DUI just leaving my driveway!! But here's a tip you can try- before I bought my humongus canning jar pliers, I used my mousepad as a gripper, it seemed to work pretty well. Why don't you give it a shot and see. Just be sure to wipe down the exteriors of your jars before inoculating. Good luck.
