Harvesting
    #28130242 - 01/08/23 07:49 AM (1 year, 4 months ago)

Hello,
I'm new here so be gentle, when harvesting your mushrooms from a monotub (first flush) is it better to cut them, or pull them out of the substraight so you have room for more flushes. I see that the stem roots start to grow fuzzy and I don't know if that will contaminate the rest, or if gently pulling them out disturbs the mycelium and that prevents another flush?

Cutting is the common way to harvest, but pulling them out doesn't do any real damage to the mycelium and it does not encourage much contamination. It just looks grizzly. Either way, it's usually best to resoak the substrate after 1st flush with pure water.

I harvest by push, twist, and pull. Push down and twist back and forth till it feels loose then pull. It takes less substrate with it and does not look to bad afterward.
There are some varieties that you have to cut out as they root in there pretty good.
There is no right way or wrong way it is whatever works best for you.
And do not believe the BS that stumps will rot and cause contamination, it simply is not true.
