Food of the Gods; Flesh of the Gods
Cacao and mushrooms have been combined since the times of the Aztecs, perhaps even earlier. The synergy between these two is profound to say the least, some might go as far as divine. Mushroom chocolate facilitates a delicious and sweet beginning to your journey and curbs many, if not all, digestive issues. The real magic happens when you find compatible combinations... some strains benefit from being combined with chocolate, for example Golden Teachers.. these combinations result in a significantly stronger final product. While other combinations don't have much, if any, potency enhancement like APE & APE/R. Successful results will give you a surprisingly strong trip (albeit with little to no visuals other than popping colors) from as little as 1/3 of a gram (1 square of chocolate) while half of that dose is still distinctively perceivable. Gear You'll Need: - 1 x Knife (to get the vanilla out of the bean)
- 1 x Infra Red Thermometer
- 1 x Pot (should accommodate your metal bowl)
- 1 x Metal bowl (should fit your pot)
- 1 x Polycarbonate 4 x 50g Chocolate bar mould (15 squares each)
- 1 x Silicone Spatula
- 1 x Scale
- 1 x Coffe/Spice Grinder
- 1 x Cookie Sheet
- 1 x Wine Fridge - Optional (final stage of tempering / storage)
Ingredients You'll need: - 220g dark (50-60%) European (Belgian) chocolate pellets. Over 60% doesn't mask the mushrooms as well.
- Half a vanilla bean - Optional
- Very small pinch of salt
- 20g Cracker-Dry Golden Teachers (or another compatible strain, please share your experience if you find other good combinations)
- isopropyl alcohol
What to do: Prep: 0. Wash and dry chocolate mould, then wipe the mould with isopropyl alcohol, dry again and place face down on a cookie sheet 1. Cool/Heat your work space to 20c. 2. Grind your 20g of mushrooms into a homogenous fine dust. 3. Fill a small amount of water into your pot and place your metal bowl over it. Check that the bowl does not touch the water. 4. Place over a small burner on a small to medium flame. Add chocolate, salt, mushroom dust and with your knife, the contents of half your vanilla bean (be careful not to get any of the vanilla bean's flesh in there). -tempering-5. Heat to 50-55c, if you go *a little* over, its not a big deal. It might look like all those mushrooms wont mix, but when it all melts the chocolate will gobble it all up. From now until you pour the chocolate you want to keep the chocolate in constant movement (making sure to scrape the sides and bottom) 6. Remove the bowl from the heat and wipe the bottom dry, while constantly mixing and let your mixture cool to 28-29c. If you only drop to 29.1 your chocolate will not temper and you'll have to go back up to 50c to start the tempering process over again (from step 5). If you drop down to 27.9 you'll have to start tempering over again. So keep an eye on your temperature! 7. Put your bowl back onto the pot and reheat your chocolate to 31-32c. Same story as step #6, if you go over or under by 0.1c you need to start the tempering stage over (starting from step 5). 8. Once the desired temperature is reached, take your bowl out of the pot, wipe the bottom. Place the mould on your scale (or pour as equally as you can) and pour roughly 55g in each of the 4 chocolate cavities. Divide whats left equally among the 4 bars and tap on a towel to get all the air bubbles out. Let cool in a 18c wine fridge until set. If you dont have a wine fridge you can put it in your regular fridge for up to 15 minutes. By that time that chocolate should have contracted and separated from the mould mostly by itself. You can also let the chocolate set at 20c room temperature but it will take a little longer. The chocolates will release from the mould very easily provided you've followed all the instructions correctly. Lick the bowl clean or let the chocolate set, and scrape into a jar for later use. For best results leave the chocolate in the mould for 12-24 hours, this allows the chocolate to complete its crystallization fully and will give you a professional looking shine and snap. If you guys want more photos lemme know and I'll add them at a later stage... Enjoy

Thanks for that. I am still fairly new to mushrooms but I recently had some with chocolate and thought it increased the effects. Nice to know there is some understanding to the mechanisms behind my experience.

Nice! Dude is this possible to do without an IR thermometer? Those temp. ranges scare me
I mean, can you do the water bath thing and just get crappy looking chocolate?

Your chocolate will not temper.. it may not come out of the mould.. it won’t be as delicious, but it’ll still work (provided you were able to get it out of the mould)

Thanks man! I mean, I guess I can use a silicone mould and pop the bugger out
Last time I downed fresh shrooms I forgot who and when I was and didn't have a safety sheet.... so sort of bad trip therefore I want to try an alternate method of consumption

Ego death can be quite unsettling. Having a trip sitter around is very helpful. Another idea is to have a trip-sheet (My name is - x, I'm in a temporary altered state - it will end, I'm a human, I live on earth... you know, the basics)
It's worth mentioning chocolate has the potential to strengthen your shrooms, so I'm not sure its a suitable alternative for you. Chocolate is works best for people looking for stronger experiences, or others who cant handle the taste/digestive issues.
I would suggest taking smaller dose rather than changing the method by which you dose. If you do end up making chocolate, 1 square, according to the recipe, comes out to be 1/3 of a gram.

Thanks. I had a trip sheet my first decent trip last year but didn't need it. Last time was expecting a similar experience (not smart cause was a different strain), so I didn't make one.
I will try this strain again, to see if it was more of a setting thing. When I have tripped in my bedroom (smallish room) they have not been good. Living room sofa has been nice.
But what I really want to try is the San Pedro I have processed, but cannot get a safe nature setting for a whole day. I live in a concrete jungle

You got it... wasn't my best batch, unfortunately I was a bit rushed and may not have achieved a perfect temper.

First attempt came out pretty good and I wasn’t super precise or quick

I do have questions about how to have the back of the mold come out flat. I feel like the chocolate wasn’t warm enough to settle smooth so I would need to put wax paper or a flat piece of latex across the top to smash it down.

awesome job! congratulations... I'm curious, which shrooms did you put in your chocolate?
being precise and quick is fairly important, as chocolate has 6 crystallisation phases and you're aiming for #5 - this phase has the most satisfying snap, shine and you can touch it without it melting straight away (melts in your mouth, not your hand kinda thing). when you pour your chocolate, try to go as fast as possible, while attempting to spread your chocolate in your mould evenly, after your chocolate has been poured, taping the mould firmly onto a hard surface (I prefer to put a towel in between) not only helps expel bubbles, but also forms the back of the chocolate smoothly

lol I actually just emptied a few months worth of crumbs and small mushrooms that collected in the bottom of my dehydrator for this. So it’s got prob 10 types of cubes, semperviva and tamp mixed in there.
I put the bowl with leftover chocolate in the fridge and chipped some off later at night just to eat, I noticed the stuff was super smooth and shiny especially underneath so I think I may have poured too cold.
It’s amazing how there’s no taste, I put 26.5g into basically two Hershey bar sized pieces of chocolate and you can’t tell there’s anything in it.

Couple of questions: is it ok to add the grinded mushrooms in the beginning - any danger of losing the potency at high heat level? and second wouldn't it be better not to grind the mushrooms to fine dust but to leave them bit coarse?

awesome! yeah, I really enjoy taking shrooms in chocolate - the taste has always been an issue for me until I started making it. its worth mentioning if you go over the ratio of shrooms/chocolate it may affect your chocolate's ability to "pour" and it could want to set faster, this could be the reason you had to flatten the back side or your bars.

the higher temp poses no issue, if anything the whole process makes some variations more potent for a reasons I am yet to fully understand. the chocolate envelops, preserves and homogenizes with the powdered mushrooms. if you do a coarse grind, you'll have variations of dose per square, the texture will not be so nice and you may taste the mushrooms more distinctly - which for me kinda defeats the purpose, at least for me
