So I just finished PCing WBS...
    #22690045 - 12/23/15 10:50 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

So I just finished PCing my first WBS jars and I noticed that there isn't much moisture inside.  I used this tek: http://www.shroomery.org/9030/Doc34-s-Wild-Bird-Seed-Tek

Basically I let it soak overnight, simmered for 30 mins, and PCed.  But at the bottom of the page it shows a picture of a finished jar and mine don't have that much moisture, in fact I dont see much of any excess water droplets like he has in his.  Does that sound like it doesn't have enough moisture?

I used pint jars with a Tyvek filter, PCed for 60 minutes covered with aluminum foil.  The WBS I am using DOES have some cracked corn as I couldn't find any that didn't have any but I have read multiple posts that have success with WBS with cracked corn.  Apart from the WBS having cracked corn I followed the tek to a "T".  Any thoughts? Thanks.

they'll be ok, don't worry. better on the drier than on the wetter side. also cracked corn has been used with much success too.

But yeah Im pretty sure your fine...for future reference,If you provide pics, its always easier for people to help.
And like cc said, its better on the dry side.

Next time, PC for the full 90 minutes, just to be on the safe side.
You want to make sure that endospore count is kept as low as possible.

I actually did 75 minutes, not 60, but will do 90 next time.

Some of the WBS is sticking together a little bit, not much though, I guess that would be the starch from the cracked corn?

I would post pics but don't have my phone on me, will do next time =)

WBS sticking together is completely normal.
Mine usually comes out like a solid block.
Just bang it against a bike tire to dislodge the grains.

If they are a little on the wet side, it's not a big deal..
That is what your GE filter is for.
The excess moisture will evaporate off in a couple of days.

Next time, taste your wbs and chew it think rice soft is about ideal!! I seriously end up eating about 1/2 cup of WBS whenever I do WBS testing it... I think it tastes not so horrible . Anyway. Have you watched LETS GROW MUSHROOMS, Grain prep videos? That is an excellent resource regardless of wbs or whatever your prepping.

As far as not thinking their perfect. They don't have to be externally wet or they can be. The softness in the inside is ALL the mycellium needs.

Most people think its too wet or too dry or too this and too that. The truth is Mycellium is really a bad ass mofo and ain't got time to worry bout if its too dry or too wet.

You wanna give it a chance though so do your best to do it the way it should. But every time you drop mycellium.spores in a jar you are literally putting down Marines in a (hopefully) mostly uninhabited place for mycelliumrines to take over that place and build a base.

You are sending micro nano bots into war and you`re the General!

Good luck General!

Yep, quoting this so it's here forever.

Also, fingernails work just fine for cleaving grains.

Damnit, I just looked inside of the jars again and a bunch of the WBS exploded...and when I say exploded they still have the shell on them but I can see the inner part is now exposed on like 30% of the WBS.  It's not like they are blasted open but they definatly cracked open...I didn't see this when I simmered, it must have happened when it was getting PCed...any ideas?

Yeah act like nothing is wrong. Because nothing is wrong. Some seeds split b 4 others. Even if you put ALL split seeds in there it'll be fine (harder to shake) But who cares.). No need to worry so much.

I wonder what kinda gnarly shits you could get from eating 24 hour soaked WBS.  Gonna need a new pack of toilet paper shits?  Call the repairman shits?  Install a hand rail shits, perhaps?  White-knuckling said handrail shits?
