Why are Mexicans so superstitious

Is it biological or something? Does it come with growing up in a third world environment? My son has grandmothers from Mexico who rub eggs on him when he is sick for a diagnosis, and think a minor illness might be associated with witchcraft, or something as simple as not letting a jelous aunt hold the baby or something
I appreciate folk medicicne, shamanism, and herbal remidies as much as the next man. But ......what can I say

It's a part of growing up in a country with a lot of cultural shamanistic or spiritual history. Like black voodoo in Cuba, shamanistic peyote rituals in South America, Native American prayers for spirits and spirit animals, and so on, these customs are passed down as an ancestral practice.
Some may find that weird, especially in the U.S, probably because the ancestral and cultural lineages and customs have become so muddled from the melting pot. Now we have no customs or spiritual 'mumbo jumbo'. Some would say that's a good thing, some would say it's bad.

Like we don't have our share of nutbags here. Like for instance people who pray to Jesus instead of going to the doctor when they are sick. Or individuals who wear magic underwear and believe in a crazy huckster who wore magic sunglasses to read tablets that god gave him. Or whatever the hell scientologists believe. I could go on and on.

I think it has more to do with Catholic upbringings.
Most Catholics I know tend to be superstitious.

Did you just ask if it's biological?
It's cultural. Their education system isn't as good as ours or more advanced countries. People tend to look towards religion to answer questions when they are less educated. Less educated people tend to believe a bunch of really unimaginable things happened and miracles saved them. They lack the ability to have a spiritual connection with God without someone telling them how to have that connection.

I have family members who think a superhuman figure mated with a human and she gave birth to a demigod. They believe this demigod is actually the superhuman figure who runs everything and knows everything.
My relatives think that the superhuman figure cares about them and fulfills their wishes if they regularly talk to him, lives by rules that were set up thousand of years ago, and give money to people and organizations who claim to speak with his authority.
They perform rituals that has something to do with eating the flesh and drinking the blood of this demigod.
No, my relatives are not Mexicans.

it's no different than those that pray any other time, praying as a blessing for a meal, for healing of others. the world is chock full of superstition, much if it people arent even aware of

If people want to be superstitious I could careless. Whatever makes them feel good about themselves and makes them happy people is okay with me. the issue is when they start talking about it like it's fact and that I'm doomed if I do not believe their ways. That or they develop prejudices and hate because of their superstitions.
