Lunar Eclipse Tonight !!!

Tonight Lipa Yai, and i are going to be watching a lunar eclipse this will be happing in lower Michigan. The Sky is crystal clear tonight, but very cold!
About 6:15 p.m. When the moon rises in the northeast, its left edge will have a slightly darkened cast. This is so because it is already well immersed in the diffuse outermost fringes of the Earth's shadow. Just a few minutes later, the moon begins its slow transit through the darker inner shadow, and there will be no doubt that an eclipse is under way.
6:30 to just after 8:00 p.m. A wave of darkening will progress from the left to right.
8:07 to 8:30 p.m. The eclipse will reach its total phase just after 8 p.m. Because this is a "grazing" total eclipse, with the moon just barely becoming completely immeresed in shadow, its lower right edge will remain lighter than the rest of the disk throughout an unusually short period of totality -only 23 minutes. During that interval comes the best part of the show. You may notice that as the lunar disk moves ever more deeply into shadow, the eclpised portion remains faintly visible, taking on a dull red color. This occurs because some light from the sun, mostly red in color, leaks into the shadow area, bent like a lens as it passes throuth the Earth's atmosphere. The feeble red light then reflects back toward our eyes from the eclipsed moon. During totality, this subtle shading is dramatic. Through binoculars, (and even with the naked eye) you will still be able to make out some of the familiar surface features, such as the broad gray regions known as lunar seas. If well away from urban sky glow, you will see a sky full of faint stars surrounding the "ghost moon." These normally are obscured by the flood of moonlight that comes at full phase.
8:30 to 10:05 p.m. As the eclipse unfolds, the moon will be climbing ever higher into the eastern sky with the Earth's rotation. After totality ends at 8:30 p.m., it will take more than an hour and a half for the moon to completely emerge from the inner shadow.
Enjoy the Sky Show

I noticed that tonight. As my daughter and myself went to dinner it was a full moon. She is only 2 and she loves the moon, and when we exited she said Daddy, moona (her word for it) is a crescent now. I thought it was strange. Now it makes sense.

i was looking forward to seeing that eclipse, but it was too cloudy during most of it.
the eclipse did appear through a hole in the clouds for about 15 seconds. it was about 3/4 of the way done.
the next time the moon appeared, the eclipse was over.
