Grafting cactus seedlings to Pereskiopsis
Because of their large surface area (the leaves) this species grows very fast. Pereskiopsis is a true cactus and not a succulent. Grafting cactus seedlings on succulents or Euphorbia's that (may or may not) look a lot like Pereskiopsis will not work.
We need:
A stock plant (Pereskiopsis), well watered and healthy Cactus seedling (Lophophora in this case) Very sharp scalpel (new blade or a razor) Alcohol 85% Forceps (or similar to move the scion in place)

Here's the uprooted seedling, only two weeks old. It's so cute

Clean the scalpel blade with alcohol and cut the top of the Pereskiopsis stem 1 cm under the top with a straight cut.

Quickly cut the seedling in two. This will only work with a REALLY sharp blade. Here's the top and the bottom sticking to the blade.

With the forceps slide the seedling of the blade onto the cut surface. Gently push it down a little to remove all air bubbles. No fixture is necesary.

Immediately put the grafted plant in a high humdity environment. I find that grafts heal best in the light (no full sun of course)
After two days the grafts have healed and can be removed from the high humidity environment.
I'll post pics of these two plants in a few days
oh and sorry for some of the pics being unsharp....i had to work fast

That's true, I was considering eralier this week writing up a section of the FAQ about grafting and various methods and various stocks, cactus and plant grafts alike.
With Una's permission we could add it to it when the grafting section is written.

You rock!! I love your instructions, thank you.
I will be posting my first experience with grafting cacti very soon.
I would appreciate it if you could help me and keep an eye on the thread.

Una. when you cut the seed in half you didnt say if you used the top hald or bottom half or both on 2 seperate grafts.
thanks...

I'll bang out both answers in one response cause i'm efficient like that .
Perekiopsis online at Mesa Garden
I'm not sure if it was in this thread or not, but Una has used "pup butts" as they've been coined around here as grafts too, the result is the root hardens of with exposure and new pups form around and off it.
Thus you can use both halves to graft or you can leave the butt in the soil. Your choice.
