I put 1 lb of millet into a bowl, poured boiling water over it.
Let it soak for 24 hours. Then microwaved for 2 mins waited
2 mins, microwaved 2 mins until it had had 6 mins.
Then drained it put it in jars and steamed for 1 hour
Left over night to cool and then inoculated on 10/01/03

The mycelium is growning much faster than the
jars i inoculated the same day

Gave it a good shaking just after the last pics were taken. This is it now
But er i think i missed a step :frown: i only just realized that millet has to have a filter to allow air change  :ooo: this only has 1 inocultaion hole with tape over.So may be it will stall before its ready to case. Also looks a little on the dry side. But im thinking if things stall just case it anyway.Yuor thought please

Yes it helps alot to have a filter to allow some air exchange.

EDIT: This experiment is much like fractional distillation. Let it soak so the endspores germinate then nuke to kill them. Keep us posted.

Well i think it stalled due to no air exchange so i thought i'd play with some bulk.

So i bought some Blended farm manure(straw and horse poo composted together)
Chopped up a bit of straw with some scissors, added a bowl of ground brown rice mixed it all up and put it in the oven at 200?f for 2 hours.Girl friend was none to pleased at how bad our house smelt all last night  i sorta like the earthy ness

The next day when it had cooled i mixed in the micro waved millet

Once all well mixed i poped the whole tray into a black bin linner and added a filter i had got of a kit of oysters.

And put an elastic band around the tray sides to semi seal the bag in place.

Now i plan to just leave it alone at 80?f for a while before i take a look.
How long do you think i should leave it alone?and does anyone notice any obviouse flaws?

Well, im no expert, but i'd say check it in a week and a half or two weeks. Looks like it might work, did you pasturize the compost any? Not sure if it matters, but when i do a casing i just put it in a bag and roll the ends up, which allows for some air exchange. The elastic might seal it pretty well but if the filter breaths, i cant imagine any problems.

Recently i put some 90% colonised rye in some pasturised compost and it is doing fine. I was worried about the rye not being a 100%...
I want to see if yours works as well, compost being unpasturized and all, good luck and post an update when it works.

Na im not gona poke holes in it,it was all done under a flow hood
and holes will just make that seem not worth it :frown:
It does have a pretty good filther to allow air exchange.
And im not going to incubate it now lol as the fucker dont fit in the incubator
its about 1" to long.So im leaving it in a warm room for 2 weeks they ill open it up for a pic and hope not to met a huge mat of green mould lol.
