hey for anyone that has used this stuff....

How far does one brick go?

I was planning on ordering some but I am not sure how many bricks to order.

1 brick is enough for 5-6 10" x 15" trays.

The cases were placed in the terrarium today. My buddy said that they were about 50% colonized. He says that this material is great so far. It stayes very moist and provides extra nurishment at the same time. My buddy says he will have me post again when he sees pins starting.

My buddy said that the mycelium continues to rip through the coco fiber. The casings are in his terrarium at 70 F. One casing is now at about 95% colonized. My buddy is a little concerned about overlay but will not disturb the casings just to see what happens.

Day 5 in the terrarium and pinning has started. My buddy says that the Gro-brick coco fiber is great. He says that this is the best casing material he has ever tried. No sign of contams at all and the coco stays nice and moist. He has fanned but not misted yet. He does have them on perlite and they have stayed plenty moist.

how was the coco fiber prepared before adding it to the loaf pans?
should it be sterilized just for the hell of it?

i have some bed a beast fiber i got from pet smart. i haven't checked the label yet but anyone had any success with this brand? does it matter as long as it doesn't have the green nastys in it?

what do you think is the time difference for colonization between using coco fiber and vermiculite?

My buddy has no experience with the bed a beast brand. My buddy has boiled tap water for 30 minutes and then added the fiber. He has also just used straight tap water with no ill effects. The difference between coco and verm is that the coco actually colonizes while the verm does not. My buddy's verm casing took about a week to get 15% mycelium coverage compared to two days for 50% coverage.

I don't know about the coco myself from experience, but I have read numerous post of people complain about contams with working with it, so maybe somebody should right a tek of just how it should be used right...

Taz,
The Gro-brick brand does not have any of the bacteria that other brands have. If you are interested in trying this for casing get the Gro-brick brand. My buddy said that one brick that was $2.95 was enough to case over twenty 1/2 pints.

Someone at the better cultivation forum that bed-a-beast needs to be sterilized b/c it's treated w/ nasties.

H? Mcman, can you explain the advantages of the use of a cocofibre casing?
I am using 50/50+ right now, but someone already told me his cambodians were cased with cocfibre wich had better results???
So I might wanna try, but like to have some more info.....?

If that reference to somebody at the other board was directed to me, I never said bedabeast had the nasties, I said my kitty kat covered her ass just in case.

Kitty kat took a large brick of bed a beast (the size that claims to yield 7-8 liters once rehydrated), and mixed it with boiling water to rehydrate. Once it was rehydrated, 1/3 cup of lime was mixed in to bring the pH up to just over neutrual from it's initial 6ish.

Bed a beast outperformed all other mixes at least 2-3 times.

I do recomend buffering the casing. At the very least it won't hurt, and very may well be what keeps you casing contam free (most contams like acidic casings).

Bed a beast rocks, just used boiled water until somebody tells ya different.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Just thought I would mention that Atlantis Hydroponic sells gro-brick as mentioned before and they do price matching.

There is a site that sells gro-brick blocks for $2.00 but their shipping is more expensive. Just let them know that you saw the price at www.Can-O-Worms-Alaska.com and they will give it to you for this price.

oh and one more thing. They do sell it in a much bigger size. a 13 pound block. For just under $20 and shipping is somewhere near $7.50 don't know the exact amount. Atlantis just doesn't have this updated on their website yet. In case anyone feels that they need that much. Just ask about it. It makes something like 20 gallons of stuff.

I saw coir bricks at my local garden / hardware store last time I was there and am going to pick one up since it is getting such positive reviews. On the packaging it was not marked as containing Trichoderma (green mold), but I don't imagine it would be. How can I test it before I find out the hard way? I was thinking I could just rehydrate some and leave it in a container for a few days to see if anything start growing, sound good?
