2 quarts of L. edodes on popcorn, what should I do with it?

I assume doing a block would be faster than making dowells and hammering them into logs later this year. I'd rather do that really, maybe both. Does anybody have a good link to how to do blocks?
These jars were innoculated like 2 months ago. They're starting to get brown spots. What does that mean?

2 months is kind of a long time to keep spawn. The brown spots may be age related, a sign of being a little past their prime. If you can get the indoor parameters right blocks would be cool, but logs are nice and low tech and you just need to be able to keep the logs moist enough and let nature take its course. You have plenty of material to do both.

I have a huge stack of split oak firewood. It was cut about 2 years ago, and has been sitting in a stack outside that whole time.
No logs though, just wedges about 10-12 inches long.

The brown spots are normal with shiitake. When you make blocks you're supposed to wait until the white mycellium turns yellow and brown before you put it to fruiting chamber. The blocks are usually made from a mixture of sawdust, wood chips and up to 10% of supplement (rice bran, oat meal, ...) and gypsum. I fruited them also from straight sawdust but I got only few small fruits.

I have got similar wedges (wood bricks). I'm preparing sawdust spawn for various species and then I'm going to stack soaked wood bricks and put spawn between layers. I hope to get a big mushroom wall this way.

My first attempt with wood turned green. What kind of container should I use, and what steps should I take towards sterility when spawning to wood?

I use polypropylene bags with Tyvek filter patch. IME you have to sterilize it longer becuase of slower heat penetration or preboil it before sterilization. Try also to get very fresh sawdust and chips - it has less resident contamns. I had problems with forest green mold when I used sawdust that was lying outside for some time. That's for preparing spawn - you don't have to sterilize wood logs or bricks for outdoor growing.
