Exhausted Cakes

Anyone ever tried making mushroom tea with exhausted cakes? If so how did it turn out?

Yup... I always made it out of my spent cakes. Haven't been disappointed yet.

I'm actually debating on trying it with spent bulk substrates (straw) and just filtering it very well (several passes through a coffee filter or something), just to see how that works. Anyone ever tried that?

So how many cakes did you use, and how did you filter it?

As many cakes as I had... and I used cheesecloth.

I'd make tea from them.

I've gotten decent tea from two cakes before.

Do you just steep the cakes in water for a while, or boil them (wouldn't the heat from boiling destroy the psilocybin?)

I bring the water to a boil, then add the crumbled cakes (crumble it as much as possible).  Then I reduce the heat and simmer them just below boiling for 10 minutes.  Filter however you like (next time I'm going to use coffee filters), add a tea bag and honey/sugar, and enjoy
