weird colors while drying???
    #2194162 - 12/21/03 04:47 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

after harvesting my little beauties, i dry them on a window fan lying down across 2 books, blowing up, in my attic. i've never had any problems doing it this way, but the past few days they've been getting a dark color throughout the stems. i can't really tell if it's green or just dark blue. my question is this: my attic is not heated, so even though the air is constantly moving past them, since it's dark and pretty cold up there, could they be getting moldy? i only leave them up there for 24 hours max, then move them to a drying chamber with dessicant. anyone have any suggestions or experiences with this?

It may just be the blueing reaction. If i was you though, i would move them from the attic, to a place where they will get more fresh air. Sun drying I've heard works well too. Peace.

try using a cooling rack (like ones used for cookies) instead of books, the moisture needs to dissapate from the fruits as quickly as possible. Stick to drying in the dark as well.

Never use sun drying. You make the mushrooms almost inactive. Learn you shit dude. You cant sun dry shrooms.

Powder a couple vitamin C tablets (Ascorbic acid) in a cup of water and dunk the shrooms before drying. This will prevent oxidation.Dry in the shade of course!

Shifting Walls, I have sun dried cubies for years and they lost no potency.

Here are a few pictures of P. cubes drying in the sun.

These are outdoors on Koh Samui Island in the Gulf of Thailand (Siam)

I have more larger images if you wish to see them. The sticks are to keep the paper on the ground so as not to blow away while I am out somewhere else collecting even more shrooms.
