I could not change the poll in this post, so I created a new and simplified it.

I've never actually bothered to measure the water leftover in my PC after a cycle. I use 3 quarts water and PC for 2 hours. There is always plenty of water left when I'm done.

Less than one, maybe half a quart. I have two quarters RTV'd to the rocker, and they barely rock at 17psi so it doesn't allow much steam to escape. If i RTV'd another quarter to it, it wouldn't rock at all, and lose even less.

I can conclude that normal PC operation should consume upto a quart of water. If more water is being lost, there is some problem with the PC, gasket, weight, stove heat setting etc.

Thanks to all who participated!

Completely depends on how much you let the rocker move.

Absolutely, if there was a way to measure the pressure and adjust the heat automatically, we wouldn't even need a rocker. Next best thing we got for now is to adjust the heat to the bare minimum so that the weight rarely jumps around.

What kind of PC are you using?

If you have a pressure gauge along with the rocker, then you can safely tape quarters or whatever to the weight and hold a certain pressure while keeping the weight from rocking too much. If you don’t have a gauge then you have to get the weight rocking to know where you’re at, and then back off a little and you’ll lose a little more water but it shouldn’t be drastic.

I’m using vintage AA pressure cookers, I stick to the 1.5” directions and I barely notice any water loss. They still have working petcocks so minus letting it steam for 10min there’s virtually no water loss once it’s closed. I love these vintage AA, been debating getting a brand new one. I think if I get a new one I will be getting a 1925 or 1941. Large price jump in the 1941, I may end up going with a 941 instead. $499 is much more attractive than $649.
