I looked up how to make some LCs to use to inoculate WBS and decided to use a tek that said to use malt/dextrose. I went to the store to get some and saw that Equal, the zero calorie sweetner, was made out of maltodextrin and aspertame. I figured maltodextrin sounded enough like malt/dextrose so i went ahead and got it and made 5 quarts of LC on sunday. I haven't seen any growth yet which is normal of course but I'm starting to wonder if i should go ahead and get the recommended stuff and make some more LCs to avoid wasting time with these. So does anyone know anything about making LCs with Equal and can tell me if i wasted my time or not? thanks

all I know is aspartame is bad stuff, it causes genetic malformations in very small doses. its been linked to brain tumors, Alzheimer's etc... theres studies right now on diet drinks cuz this shit is in it. its addictive also. just all around bad chemical.

um i'm not too worried about that. i'm sure most of it is going to be metabolized by the mycelium and even if not then i probably didn't use much more than what's in a 6 pack of diet coke.

I tryed using it like 10 years ago and it didnt work, I think I was trying to make some PDA broth or something close to that

shroom and people have almost the same pathogens and aspartame has been screwing people up for the last 20 years. Im not talking about you ingesting it, Im talking about it hindering growth or not having any growth at all....but I guess only time will tell.....

mkay well thanks for the advice. I'll probably start a new LC with the right ingredients tomorrow but i'll keep watching those to see if anything happens.
