so i innoced a single jar using pf tek to the "T" on march 7. it is now march 18. after 3 days i barely noticed a little fuzz. then the next 3-4 days i got decent growth to about the size of a quarter. then it seemed to stall so i traced it with a marker. in 2 1/2 days it has only grown about 1 mm outside the line that i traced. i think that using the fine horticulture verm it is slowing growth. also when i mixed the 2:1:1 ratio the verm didnt seem anywhere near capacity. when mix verm should i go by the 2:1:1 method or the squeeze test or just stir it in until right b4 it is starting to pool in the bowl.
my theory may be wrong but it is this: when it first showed quarter size spots of myc. they were up against the glass of the jar. now they have pulled away and look kinda like they are sucking away from glass. i think it may have used up all the water and maybe be shrinking.

First time i did the PF tek i did 20 jars, id say maybe 4-5 showed a lot in the next 2 weeks, but it took the longest ones almost 1.5 months to finish

Your mixture (2:1:1) should be light and fluffy as well as a little wet (more damp than wet) the 2:1:1 ratio is based on fine verm and in the PF tek it says you may have to add more or less water to get the content right based on your verm/brf consistency.
I'd keep waiting, I've had jars take a month to colonize.

It took my first grow around 6 weeks to fully colonize. Also for me as it colonizes it pulls away from the jar.

I use the super fine vermiculite with the 2:1:1 ratio and I have absolutely no problems, I make my own spore prints and use them immediately, I have fully colonized cakes within 8 days.

Lucky guy, StuckintheskY.
You also don't grow the same species as I do
Temperature will also play a role in the speed of growth.

temps should be 72-78*F
too many spores can actually be counter-productive. Your syringe should not look "darkened"

Right after I finish the PC'ing the Jars and they have cooled with shotglass and syringes in the PC as well I take the mushroom cap off of the piece of the foil in the sterile print box and seal it. I bring everything into the sterile room and make my spore syringes right there and then, then I inoculate the jars while they are semi-warm. I see growth usually the next night so about 24 hours. I pick the nicest, fastest and biggest fruits for prints. I then put the foil loosely back on top of the jars and just set them up in my closet. Temperature fluctuates throughought the day. The fresher the print the better it seems like, and technique.

so to which part do you attribute the quick colonizing to? fresh prints?

I would say fresh prints (as in fresh from the gills, not fresh into a syringe). I have never seen 24 hour growth from spores -- then again I've never used a spore print that was not dried and stored for a while first.

Spore germination always takes a few days. With live mycelium you'll see first signs of colonization within 24h.
