FRUSTRATION
    #9993618 - 03/18/09 07:00 AM (15 years, 15 days ago)

Ive been thinkin about some things in the past few minutes and it appears that cynicism might correlate with some sort of spiritual frustration arising out of the unresolved meaning of significant experiences. When people make humour with cynicism, it is like they are resolving the unresolved by framing a failed situation from a dominant angle.

what do you think?

With whom does the correlation apply?

I think your meaning machine might be working overtime here. I don't see that making humour with cynicism generally resolves anything. It could, but not necessarily in the way you describe and not necessarily in a significantly correlated manner. BTW, according to what are you judging when something failed situation is resolved - by psychosomatic relief, creation of a new insight/belief, or something else?

Reframing something with cynical humour just does that, reframes it, but doesn't resolve it. Maybe by reframing it, it broadens the load of the assumed failure across several frames, thus lightening the load of cognitive dissonance from the perceived failure to understand, and then the person has the choice of whether to treat the whole thing as a joke or possibly explore it further for deeper spiritual meaning. But I'm just tired and dribbling now so...

I dont mean it resolves the issue in the event, but it resolves the search for meaning - the search for meaning which comes with depression which comes with failure. If you make something (genuinely) humourous, you make it ok. perhaps the joke will be short term and the problem will come back to frustrate you. perhaps it will be long term and the perspective will allow you to see alternative angles to the problems you witness.

Couldnt agree more.
Just look at your notorious shit-talking cynical posters , and their general view on things.
It isnt the right way to resolution though..
Leaves people sad and lonely.. in the end... or with ignorant little minions of their own.

It isnt the right way to resolution though.

There is no right way to deal with life. Certainly not your way although you seem to think you know what's best for everyone else.

I like.

It recalls some of Schopenhauer's commentary on laughter.

If you don't care then what's the point of bringing it up. Are you a liar?

The point of bringing it up is to point out a contradiction , since you break the rules yourself after indicating i should follow them.

And yes...
This is all fun
Believe it or not..

Havent had a decent argument  in quite some time now..
Seems that my adversaries get a bit "Frustrated" though
