Re: music... headphones vs speakers [Re: Rocker232]

I wish I could sleep in headphones, but then either my ears star hurting, or if I'm wearing my nice ones that cover my ears, my head and neck start hurting from the awkward position.

I have a Logitech X-240 setup in my bedroom. The sub is beneath the bed by the top, and the two satellite speakers hang on my headrest so when I sleep, I'm encompassed by music.

And they're probably the best speakers I've ever bought for $25.

I like speakers, but my dog peed on my amp. Now I have to listen to headphones.

Speakers for me, especially when tripping it can be annoying to have eardots stuck in the holes

headphones are important for recording music, listening to music when you want to avoid noise, and listening to music when shut off to the rest of the world. Otherwise a good stereo will win outright. As mentioned, the way that the music interacts with the space is a whole aspect of music when tripping. And I dunno what you mean, rocker 232, when you say that you lose sounds when you listen through speakers. do you have crap speakers or something? Maybe you are used to being quiet with your sound systems? I mean.. damn.. how the HELL can headphones vibrate your body to a bassline?

speakers for sure

Whatever about speakers or headphones, you can't beat the sounds that come out of an electric guitar amp while tripping on acid. With distortion on,it sounds out of this universe.  :drooling:

At times,it sounds like the amp is right up by your ear and at other times, it sounds like it's in another room altogether. Add pitch shifts and visuals that flow in accordance with what you're playing and that's a recipe for :awebig:

i like headphones because it takes the other little sounds around your house away better than speakers.

but when i'm with friends, speakers are the only real option.

Look into the science of acoustics. Speakers sound great in huge empty rooms, not so much when you have furniture and other objects to bounce the sound back. Headphones sound better than speakers as a fact, not an opinion, whether you notice the difference is what matters though. When you use headphones you hear the sound as intended with no added distortion.

I will also note though that obviously quality does play some role too. I have headphones that have 6 speakers in them so its a perfect representation of surround sound without any object interference.

I usually put my zune on shuffle and plug it into my surround sound before I sleep, but when I'm tripping the entire duration of the trip I have my bose headphones on. Nothing like tripping to music when you got your head plugged into a concert hall.

its a legalized American drug, like alcohol or cigarettes. Its potential is very miniscule when compared to LSD or Psilocybin Magic Mushrooms. I've done salvia 3 times. First time I was afraid of never being myself again. Second time I was afraid I couldn't listen to Pink Floyd ever again. And the third time I was afraid to stand up.

First time doing lsd, I discovered I was God of my own Universe and that I have the power to know and do anything. Sorry, little off topic.

Fuck you. I've had an out of body experience with NOS under medical conditions, that'd be the most intense trip I've had, but I would list that under 'dissociative'.

I haven't tried mushrooms or LSD or DMT or any of the harder psychedelics. I do wish to, but hold a lot of respect for them, so am holding out until when I feel ready.

Salvia, for me at the moment at least, with the 10x extract I have been experimenting with, has given me a feeling of intense stonedness and nice closed-eye visuals, and a heightened music appreciation for ambient-like music, for which I find speakers to be good.

I'm pretty sure I can class Salvia as a psychedelic, unlike what it seems to be that you are insinuating.

Cheers.

Then you have been smoking WAY to little. Man, it is THE most intense psychedelic IN THE WORLD! I can quote from a book on it: "It makes DMT seem like a water pistol." and "Salvia is to DMT as DMT is to Mushrooms." And I can personally say DMT is to mushrooms as mushrooms is to weed, if that can give you an idea.

Oh, and that NOS thing is sick, must have loved that dentist appointment...

They both can sound really good, but when playing music on good quality speakers i don't think it can be beat.  Lately i have been into multi channel lossless music.  That is something you cannot experience with headphones.  It's like 3D sound, you can here individual sounds and instruments coming out of different speakers.

If anyone has a ps3 or AVCHD compatible bluray player and a good home theater they may be interested in these...  I have made these releases from DVD-Audio discs.  The flaming lips - at war with the mystics release is particularly amazing.  You will need a usenet account to download these.

i definitely prefer speakers.  even though headphones are capable of producing a clearer sound, clarity and accuracy of sound reproduction is not a metric which directly translates into pleasure of the overall experience of listening to music.

if i'm tripping with other people i prefer speakers, but that does mean the music has to be acceptable to everyone.  headphones interfere with social interactions too much.  if i'm alone, it depends on what i'm doing and how good the speakers available are.  headphones are for when good speakers aren't available or when i need to be quiet and nothing else.  i like hearing the interaction of the sound with the room and hearing it combine with ambient sounds.  even if i'm tripping face i tend to prefer speakers, the isolation that headphones provide being entirely unnecessary at that point since i am in my own world anyway.  almost all of my headphone use while tripping is when i'm walking alone in nature.

could also argue that my favorite way to experience music on psychedelics (particularly lsd) is at live shows, and that is 100% of the time on speakers, therefore speakers win by that logic.

Headphones of course will always give you better sound quality unless you have a really expensive home theatre system with top of the line amp etc.

The only headphones you should use though are the kind that cover your ears completely otherwise you will have some sore ass ears.
