Favorite PC RPG of all time?

I haven't been into gaming for a while, but I'm on spring break and am feeling the urge to absorb myself into some fantastical RPG. Any suggestions on what to get? What's been your all-time favorite?

Hi- A while ago I used to play Star Wars: Empire at War. It was quite enjoyable, it will keep you occupied. Age of Mythology is decent too.

TeS IV: Oblivion
I haven't played Fallout 3 yet, but it looks amazing.
The Witcher has amazing potential but I just couldn't get into it, give it a shot anyways.

Fallout 2 with high resolution patch and restoration project is still very excellent if turn based combat doesn't turn you off. - This is my all time favourite
I also recommend oblivion and morrowind (with 3rd party graphics, models and textures enhancements)
Diablo 2 still has a reasonably strong online community.
Haven't played Fallout 3 yet either, it looks awesome - the main downside for me is not being able to continue after finishing main quest...pfft you could do it in Fallout 2 side quests n all.
Anyone know if i can run Fallout3 given i can run Oblivion on high settings? (i know i need more ram (only got 1gig), but i'm using a Nvidia 7600gs as my graphics card - it handles oblivion excellently on latest drivers)

Oh whoops you are right. I get RTS and RPG mixed up sometimes.
I think World of Warcraft is an RPG, most people I know that play it are quite immersed in it.

Final fantasy 7 is on PC and i don't care what the elite RPGers say about over-ratedness that game complete owns other RPGs maybe because of the storyline IDK.

i LOVED the witcher! completely badass game. great mature story, and not just in the sense that there happens to be a lot of gore, violence and sex... but also interesting characters, thought provoking quests and choices. combat is fun too once you get the hang of it.
AND.. at one point in the story you visit the druids because you are in need of their elemental magic for a quest.. the druids claim it's a difficult spell.. so they send you out to pick "psilocybin mushrooms" from a cave. when you finally return and give the druid the shrooms, he follows you to help you on the quest.
ahh.. just thinking about it makes me want to reinstall it and play.
some of my other favorites would be deus ex, gothic, and morrowind

One of my all time favorites was knights of the old republic. I really enjoyed both of them. Some people don't like it though because some times it is more like watching a movie.
I so need to play Fallout 3. All I hear are awesome things about it.
Unfortunately I don't really have much time for games anymore. I have Spore for the PC right now. Which so far isn't too bad. We will see though.

Mushroom city? Sounds more like morrowind (telvanni achitecture). Or at least the shivering isles which had giant mushrooms around buildings and in the wild. I reckon oblivion wan't that great to look at and was rather repetitive, but i enjoyed the shivering isles expansion a lot, it had cool design. The fun for me in oblivion was more with other guild quests and random quests than with the actual main quest - The Lost Spires and Malevolent mods/third-party-add-ons made it awesome.

Yeah I played mass effect and was dissapointed. The game only took me about 15 hours to beat and that was with side quests. Other than that it was ok. I don't think that it lives up to KOTOR though. I can't wait until the KOTOR MMORPG comes out. That is going to be epic.

If you're looking for something relatively new, Fallout 3 is great. I have been bored of games for awhile but this one really revitalized gaming for me.
Beats Oblivion in my opinion, Oblivion bores the crap out of me!

Fallout is my favorite RPG series. I also enjoy playing the D&D games like Baldur's Gate and NwN. Deep and immersive, that's what RPGS were made to be. I used to like Final Fantasy. But the gameplay is too linear for me now. I seek more freedom in games.
I have yet to play Fallout 3 due to hardware limitations. But hopefully this year I can update to a good gaming PC and get that adventure started.
I look forward to Dragon Age: Origins as well.

Good torrent, if you didn't find one yet cypher
Yea I was reading through this thread and it inspired me to dl it; but when i sat down and began to play I thought, do I really want to spend 40 hours playing this? Id really enjoy experiencing the whole cinimatic aspect for a second time, but I really don't feel like actually playing it... Its hard to get into videogames anymore, let alone ones I have already played.

AlteredAgain said: Fallout is my favorite RPG series.
I look forward to Dragon Age: Origins as well.
been going through fallout 2 again with the Restoration Patch by Killap if you don't know about it you should get it. it brings back content that blackisle left out of the game, just working. totally worth it.

I would have to say NWN with all its mods that game never seems to get boring. Also Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate are high on the list.

For the PC, Wasteland and Fallout. Best RPG's because you literally could play any way and win. Even the new Fallout 3 forces you into alot of combat, where the old games let you play as a pacifist or scientist if you wanted. Old school- but no one has matched that open feel since. I liked Neverwinter Nights as well. Typical D&D type fare, but well done and deep gameplay. Historical strategy games allow for a degree of role playing as well, while not being true role players. For example with Rome: Total War you can alter history how you see fit- not role playing per se, but you can tailor your faction fairly well. Do you become the scourge of the English playing Medieval: Total War by sending William Wallace to sack London? Or perhaps in your world the Scots invade and hammer the Irish while dealing with Longshanks.....
Again, not true role playing, but in a sense, it can be.

Ya the greatest classics are Planescape: Torment and Deus Ex! those and hl1 stand out as epic in my thoughts.

If you can get it to run properly via emulator or patch the game System Shock is awesome! The graphics are a little old but our newer pcs can run it at max res. Its a fps rpg witha unique game feel. You start and choose which line of the military you want to progress down and based on your course choices you character will be better with repairing weapons for example. There is simple hack features included , research modes , a good amount of diffrent weapons and items, and a real creepy survival horrorish feel to it. 9/10 in my books.
The company or people I should say involved in this game were a big part of making bioshock what it became.

My favorite RPG of all time I would have to say on the PC would be Baldurs Gate 2 and on a game system would be Final Fantasy 6

It was a gross, physical salute to the fantastic possibilities of life in this country—but only for those with true grit. And we were chock full of that."
