I might have to go for this or for Neverwinter Nights; quite a few people have recommended that Final Fantasy to me. Hopefully I can find a good torrent of FF7.

Fallout is my favorite RPG series. I also enjoy playing the D&D games like Baldur's Gate and NwN. Deep and immersive, that's what RPGS were made to be. I used to like Final Fantasy. But the gameplay is too linear for me now. I seek more freedom in games.
I have yet to play Fallout 3 due to hardware limitations. But hopefully this year I can update to a good gaming PC and get that adventure started.
I look forward to Dragon Age: Origins as well.

Good torrent, if you didn't find one yet cypher
Yea I was reading through this thread and it inspired me to dl it; but when i sat down and began to play I thought, do I really want to spend 40 hours playing this? Id really enjoy experiencing the whole cinimatic aspect for a second time, but I really don't feel like actually playing it... Its hard to get into videogames anymore, let alone ones I have already played.

been going through fallout 2 again with the Restoration Patch by Killap if you don't know about it you should get it. it brings back content that blackisle left out of the game, just working. totally worth it.

I would have to say NWN with all its mods that game never seems to get boring. Also Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate are high on the list.

For the PC, Wasteland and Fallout. Best RPG's because you literally could play any way and win. Even the new Fallout 3 forces you into alot of combat, where the old games let you play as a pacifist or scientist if you wanted. Old school- but no one has matched that open feel since. I liked Neverwinter Nights as well. Typical D&D type fare, but well done and deep gameplay. Historical strategy games allow for a degree of role playing as well, while not being true role players. For example with Rome: Total War you can alter history how you see fit- not role playing per se, but you can tailor your faction fairly well. Do you become the scourge of the English playing Medieval: Total War by sending William Wallace to sack London? Or perhaps in your world the Scots invade and hammer the Irish while dealing with Longshanks.....
Again, not true role playing, but in a sense, it can be.

Ya the greatest classics are Planescape: Torment and Deus Ex! those and hl1 stand out as epic in my thoughts.

If you can get it to run properly via emulator or patch the game System Shock is awesome! The graphics are a little old but our newer pcs can run it at max res. Its a fps rpg witha unique game feel. You start and choose which line of the military you want to progress down and based on your course choices you character will be better with repairing weapons for example. There is simple hack features included , research modes , a good amount of diffrent weapons and items, and a real creepy survival horrorish feel to it. 9/10 in my books.
The company or people I should say involved in this game were a big part of making bioshock what it became.
