Are their any graphic designers around?

I'd like to make a company logo but I have no idea how to create it.
I'd like it to look like the name is spray painted on a brick wall with an urban feel to it.
Is their any way to design something like this using a computer or am I going to have to literally spray paint it on a brick wall and take pictures?

the hard part is going to be making it visible against a background like a brick wall. i played with it a little bit. how close is this to what you were thinking?

or you could go graffiti style and make the letters a bit more bubbly / put a background on them to make it more visible.

photoshop.
crop the design you drew up so all you can see is the white background, then fade it out in blending options. from there you just add a new layer (your background), and apply whatever effects you want to make the writing look more like spray paint.
if you can sketch a pretty good approximation of what you want the actual logo to look like, it's really not hard at all to touch it up in a photo editing program, change the texture, and blend it all together.
if you wanted to start from scratch on the computer, it's just a matter of picking a font and colors and doing something like this . if you don't like the fonts available, you can pick one that's close and then morph it with the "liquidize" function.

This is what I have so far.
I'm trying to do exactly what the tutorial in the link says but I'm stuck on step 9. (making the shadow)
Quote:
Drag the black layer behind the graffiti layer and move down and to the left a little bit
I made a new layer and filled it in with black but I can't figure out how to drag it down and to the left of the other layer.
It seems like I should be able to see both layers on top of each other but for some reason I can only see them one at a time by clicking on the individual layers.
Am I missing something here?

unless you're selling clothes to street brats, you may want something more appealing to the general public

Anyone know how to get a brick wall pattern for the background?
I only have a few choices in Photoshop and they all suck.

there's tons of brick clip art out there, you can do your own by nabbing a pic of the bricks, flattening it and applying a filter or two, to adjust it to your liking
what exactly is it your product line, that should be a determining factor in any logo design, in doing a graffiti style you very seriously limit your customer base

looks good. to do the background shadow like they do on that site, you right click on the layer with the text:
duplicate layer make it black then right click on your duplicate layer and click "move to back," then it will be behind and you can just adjust it to get the angle of the shadow.
what i think you did, though, was make the actual image on an off-white background. this means that the shape of your image is actually the whole square of color with text on it. what you want to do when you start a new pic like this is select no background (or transparent at the least.) your duplicate layer is probably there, but it is technically behind your current off-white "background."
to get rid of the background and only have the text, which will also be important if you're going to paste it over a brick wall, there are two things you can do:
1. use the magic wand tool to highlight your text, and then right click and hit "layer via cut" and drag your text layer onto the other image of the brick wall
2. if your text is still on a separate layer than the background, you can just right click your text layer and hit "new layer from background" and then delete your off-white layer.

For this particular project, my target market are those facing hard times in the economic slump.
The lower class loves to sell their possessions for a quick buck and I figured becoming an eBay trading assistant of sorts would be a great way to capitalize on this situation.
I have several "jobs" so this is not a full time venture but I do plan on marketing and conducting business as if it were.
My marketing plan is to post flyers, create a Myspace/Facebook, and to attract clients through word-of-mouth.
A great expansion would be to talk to local businesses about selling some of their overstock/items that don't sell well.
I work an 8-5 job in the corporate world and am well aware of the fact that a graffiti style logo would not fly, but I think it will be just fine to have a little fun with a project like this.

As this is my very first time using Photoshop, I'm pretty pleased with what I have created.
After printing the design and staring at it for a few hours I think I'm going to start over and take your advise about having no background/transparent.
I'm happy with the way "Liquidators" came out but I think I am going to go with a slightly different font for "ATL", put a space between each character to give it a little more definition, and increase the font size a point or two.
I'll post an update when I get that far.

I'm not sure if you're even looking for feedback anymore, but here's mine. I think your font choice is wayyyy too hard to read. Most people who saw that logo might very well pass by just because it's illegible. You gotta snag their attention and deliver your message as quickly and easily as possible. You could still go with a graffiti style logo but to me they usually end up looking unprofessional.
