Substrate too dry before casing?
    #998710 -

A character in a story I am reading has gotten his/her poo & straw 85% colonized with AC. When poo was pasteurized, the character thought that he/she had it at proper "field capacity". Now, five days later in the story that I am reading, the mycelium has colonized 85%, but the character said the poo/straw seems very dry ... the character doesn't know if it is too dry, but it is definitely not at field capacity anymore. The character wanted to know if he/she should case now (since casing will be made to field capacity) or will it be ok to wait until it is 100%, ORRRRRRRRRR should the character maybe mist the substrate?

Just wait a little while, for some reason, the last 10-15% always takes a little longer to colonize, if its not done in a week, then try misting it.

Skikid is on the money. I  think that last 10% goes slow, because the myc has colonized the easy stuff. It gets like it has a full belly & just does the last bit slower. Like eating pizza. The first few slices go fast, the last slice does not.

I give mine a few more days after full surface colonization, to insure the center & bottom are @ 100% - also.
