Do you ritualize your psychedelic trips?

How many people have a specific ritual or ceremony involved when they trip? I'm thinking here of how it is traditionally done in tribes; how the shaman dictates pretty much everything that happens during a trip: when to sing, when to dance, when to fall into silence, etc.
I realize lots of people dose and just wing it. But how many people have a structured ritual/ceremony? What is it? And how does it affect your trip in comparison to just winging it?

it's funny you know what the shaman does alone is different than what he does with the group.
my trips are alone 95% of the time. knowing when to do anything is a profound act of personal spontaneous magic.
I guess his group of people have some traditional expectations and the rest is the delight in experiencing the shaman's spontaneity. (if he is a good one)
this applies to non tripping as well as tripping.
some is traditional or routine. and some is off the cuff.
for me I have only been able to escape some tradition, and only been able to achieve some spontaneity.
how could it be any other way?

I have tried to meditate while on mushrooms.... and i can't explain the feeling i got.... i transfigured into plants, like i literally felt like i was leaves, and vines. I also tried to meditate once and i felt wings attached to my eyes......
I don't know what meditating does but its has breathtaking results on psychedelics....

I try to keep my trips free from the shamanistic baggage. Perhaps I would even go so far as to do the opposite of what I heard a ritual dictates as an outward symbolic liberation from culture and the past.

There is always a certain kind of solemnity or psychedelic gravity felt when holding a cup of ayahuasca for example. The seriousness of the intent is present. There is no turning back. I think that every good drug user is "ritualistic" this way. The internal process is very focused. This helps you to understand more from the experience instead of merely freaking out. Lao Tzu - "If all else fails, hold onto the center." Ritual is internal in this respect. Some choose to maintain certain external behavioral patterns; much like a golfer swinging a club before teeing off, or a tennis player fingering the strings on a racket (sp?). The outward ritual can help focus inward intent for the drug user that doesn't take drugs just to see pretty geometric patterns and suchlike. Stop being distracted. Perceive and understand what is really transpiring.

Good point Mr.AI. I've only tripped half a dozen times in my life, never with any sort of external ritual, but always with the same solemnity internally.

My first trip was the only exception. The first time I was a brain washed idiot who thought psychedelics were for loser escapists. I took a powerful ayahuasca analogue (peganum harmala, mimosa hostilis, diploterys carabrena (sp?)) merely in an attempt to prove a great friend wrong...

Fasting is great! It helps you see the distinctions between physical/ nonphysical and prepares you for MAOI ingestion. I surmise you consume MAOI to potentiate experiences as well?

I don't follow any specific ritualistic behaviour during trips. I sometimes smudge beforehand and blow sage smoke over the fungus, that's about it.
I do clean the house beforehand, though, if I'm staying indoors.
I have begun a fairly regular meditation practice as of late. I really believe that it is an essential component of my own spiritual awareness.
When I have an encounter with mushrooms and other psychedelics, I always tell them "I trust you". And I consciously acknowledge that I may be changed in ways I do not anticipate. I have this feeling that mushrooms are this unbroken chain of wisdom that has existed on planet earth for a very long time, so I have to submit to its power and/or face my own incongruence with its ways.
Mushrooms are heavy. But what is as important as the trip is bringing back what I find there are putting it to work in my life, no matter what the nature of the teaching. Sometimes it's painful!
I guess that is my ritual approach

i light a large beeswax candle, stop my ears with beeswax plugs, draw the curtains, close the door, don an eyemask, and pack myself in bed. post-peak as my personality begins to reassemble, the mask comes off and the plugs come out and i enjoy the golden flickery light and fragrance of the candle.
at least, that's what i do with big (psilocybin) doses, and i don't do this often. i have lost interest in less than big doses, mostly.

I ritualize my trips to make sure it's as inward and spiritual as possible. I am always alone, and although I do not have a ceremony or something unique, I do have my own sort of ritual. Usually consists of a day or two prior to tripping I cleanse myself and take optimum care of my body. While going into it, I always draw to see where my subconscious is dwelling, and from there music is always a part of my experience. When I come down, much water, many vitamins and a night of good rest is always followed. Not much, but I have done it every single trip almost.
