4 week update, Madseason Bags, Fruiting Chamber Ideas?
    #9897010 - 03/02/09 02:18 PM (15 years, 10 months ago)

Welp, after spending way too much time reading countless posts on this message board, Ive decided to give the bags a shot. My only regret is I didnt order the spores from a Shroomery vendor. Rookie mistake, I know.

Gotta give props to Roadkill for the videos on Mushroomvideos.com. You couldnt have explained what seemed like a complicated process any better.

Ill start a grow log in about a week.

I'm really stoked to get this experiment going. I'm going to knock up the bags before my spring break vacation so I won't be able to check the bags for 10 days.

From what I've gathered from this forum, a large portion of slow grows are caused by lack of patience.

This place is a friggin gold mine man. More specifically, the search bar is a friggin gold mine. I had a million questions about a week ago. Now, only about half a million.

Any tips or words of wisdom would be much appreciated.

Been really busy lately, gave the bags to a friend with more spare time.

It's been a week since since my friend started this experiment. No signs of growth yet. He's thinking it is just too cold where the bags have been stored for the last week(60-65 F).

He moved them into a small hamper with towels on the bottom and a blanket over it. He also moved the hamper to a warmer location(70-75 F).

Is he just being impatient? Should he bother handling them so soon?

Sounds like you have the right attitude.

Who did you order the syringes from?  It's always possible that you just got syringes full of water.

Did you inject directly into the substrate, or along the side?  If you injected into the substrate you won't see growth as quickly.

Other than that, I'd leave them alone and wait another week without touching them.  Each time you fondle bags, it sets them back.

Spores are from a non-vendor source so I won't mention any names, however, it rhymes with nicro-tupply or nicro-yech. Something like that.

Injected them along the sides/top of substrate.

I bought my bag from TMS and had great luck. I also purchased a 10 pound bag of compost from HMC that I'm using for my first grow right now, and things are looking great. Your gonna do just fine, TMS doesn't disappoint! I only used 1 bag for every 10lbs of compost, you don't need to use anymore than that!

Whaaaa? One TMS bag per 10 lbs compost? seriously?

My friend has been studying up on how he's going to spawn one of these. That is, if he grow the balls to do it. Seems like 90% of The Shroomery spawn info deals with jars though.

Jars and bags, they're all the same.  HMC is a great way to get started.  Personally I like using a pretty high spawn ratio though.  Grain is a lot more nutritious than compost, so you're selling yourself a little short if you use less spawn.

Real talk haha....Like I said it's my first grow. Perhaps there could be an advantage to using more spawn per the 10lbs of compost? But my poo is colonizing well with only the 1 bag. If there's a more experienced grower saying to use more, he/she probably has a good reason.

I did the same exact thing, tossed my bags of grain in a hamper with some blankets to keep them somewhat warm. I made the mistake of not leaving the bags extended and it drastically slowed the colonization process. Don't make that same mistake!

Came home and my buddy informed me that while I was away on vacation, the bags had started to show growth.

3 of the bags look like they're doing great. No growth in the bottom right bag. He's still having trouble keeping these bags warm enough (70-75).

He's not going to change anything though as the low temps dont seem to be affecting things.

My friend had a friend of an acquaintance break up the bags at around 40% the other day. He can see the light at the end of the spawn-bag-tunnel.

One of the bags is definitely a dud.  He's left with 3 bags, 2 of them B+ and one of them EQ. He didn't mark them because he's a raging moron.

He's going to fruit two of them right in the bag and try his hand at spawning one of the other bags to pre-pasteurized poo (1lb mad season bag to 5lb doo doo.)

Question: I don't think 6lbs of sub will fill up anything other than a tiny mono. Any suggestions on a fruiting chamber?

ive had a few bags from the mad season before and currently i have 4 going as well. Dont lose hope on that last bag..you may think its a dud but put it in a drawr for  a month then come backand you just might have a fully colonized brick sitting there. I never really had any problems but this time i just cant get them to fruit. I left them in the bag for previos times with an alright yield this time i moved to my shotgun terrerium which i suggest you make. its been almost 2 weeks and nothing yet, for me at least.
