HP's usually have pretty good stats for the price. i love mine.
certain dells are decent too, but they're expensive.
acers are cheap...in both price and quality.
asus are okay
toshibas are great laptops but again can be pricey.
overall i would say toshiba, HP, and thinkpads are the best out there right now for windows.

Do they even still make computers with 3.5" floppy drives?
Do they even still make Floppy disks?

haha that's funny. i missed the floppy drive thing.
you're not going to find those on any current models. i'd say your best bet is a USB floppy drive if you really need one...

NOT TOSHIBA!
I repaired toshiba laptops for 4 years. Every fucking model has some engineering flaw. It's usually that the solder on DC in connector breaks away from the motherboard and the computer won't charge.
Toshiba is horrible fucking garbage.

I got a gateway in 06 and have used it every single day since then with absolutely zero problems. I brought it to and from school every day, on planes, to friends houses, played some games and had it on for 6+ hours a day since I got it without a single issue. Granted I am very smart about what sites I visit and what I download so I have avoided having to reinstall XP.
Also I have it set up to dual boot XP and Ubuntu. I don't know what their quality is like these days but I've been really impressed with this one.

No experience with Asus. HP, Dell, and Sony usually hold up pretty well. I usually boycott Sony after the issue I had with them repairing my camera, but their laptops are quality.

I've had an HP for 3 years and its a champ. But I don't use it as a full-time machine so it might've had problems before now if I had run it more consistently.
And as previously stated, you're not gonna find floppy drives anywhere anymore. What in the world would you possibly need a floppy drive for anyway? 1.44MB on a big clunky disk? Thats so 20th century!

Seriously? Here I was gonna come in here and say MOTHERFUCKING TOSHIBA.
Seriously though, I've had my X205 Sli for about 2 years now and it's probably the smoothest machine I've ever owned... Toshiba has some of the best support and I haven't heard any complaints from http://forum.notebookreview.com.. Oh did I mention this thing is a fucking BEAST?. Sure beats the fuck out of any other laptop I've ever touched. I fucking love it.
Laptop + Sli + widescreen + harmon kardon speakers = WIN. Maybe its because its a "high end" gaming laptop, that it is superior to most.. I don't know.. this was my first Toshiba. What I do know is that it kicks fucking ass and was less than 2k when new - which dollar for value - beats any other laptop out of the water, hands down - I did the research. Dunno about now.
But yeah, fucking Toshiba rules.

I've owned 3 Toshiba laptops and every single one was dead within 3 years.
One of them was a $1,850 3Ghz, 1GB RAM computer. Same problem DC in broke off of the motherboard. Got a new motherboard to replace it... Exact same fucking problem happened 3 months later. I never tripped over the power cord either.

That... sucks?
I have bad experiences with both Acer and HP.. they are cheap for a reason. But I'm sold on Toshiba. I think I've turned my laptop off.. maybe... 20 times in the past 2 years? I usually leave it running 24/7 plugged in.. use it for video editing and all kinds of processor intensive stuff and it takes it all like a champ. Never had any problems..
The ONE thing I don't like about it is the battery lasts about, 30-45 minutes.. an hour max if you are doing anything. But that's to be expected with a high powered gaming laptop with 2 vid cards? It's not ideal for travel and extended periods of battery use, and the fucken thing weighs like 17lbs. But ya, 'tis a beast.

alright, fine, no 3.5" floppy. the reason was...if i dont get the internet at my new apartment, and i need to print out my resume after editing it on my laptop, i need a way of getting it to a library computer so that i can print it.
but i guess i could just save it online somewhere and edit it on the libraries computer.
