I'm curious of how you all feel about using psychedelics. Do you feel the experience is something holy and undefinable, or is it just your brain being really fucked up, or both, or neither?
Do you think theyre just an escape from reality or are an important part of spiritual growth?

I completely agree with Enter on this one.
I believe once a month would even be pushing it with the psychedelics, I mean how special is Xmas and it only happens once a year.
Imagine how old mushrooms would get if you did them every week.
Everything once it is abused will become nothing more meaningful than a cigarette as Enter said, and will eventually consume you.
You must respect the Mushroom and the Mushroom will respect you.

indeed, and if you do mushrooms everyweek, it can fuck with your mind. And Visuals last forever. But indeed, it usually depends on how hard you actually trip the last time. if you don't trip that hard, you ususaly say i could do that again soon, but when i trip really hard, i am like "damn, i am straight for atleast a month or 2.

its prolly all those things to different people. you dont need to consume foriegn things to reach that "special" place, or whatever you want to call it. all you need is you, thats what i think. i try not to hold any one thing above any other thing, so for me shrooms are as sacred as used toilet paper

Nothing is an escape from reality. Drugs like mushrooms, and the state of beeing they create are a part of our reality. I think all is sacred and nothing is sacred. I think an altered mind-state is important to one's understanding of reality, but not for everyone and not inherently good or bad. It's just one of the many things-which-are and you can use or misuse it however you want.
Having no direct experience with 'God', our own brains are about the most advanced and special thing we've encountered, so why not think of a brain fluctuation as sacred?

I've had both sacred/spiritual experience's aswell as those that nothing special. That goes for all psychedelics I have encountered  I have had the same run of luck when it comes to single days of my life, some being more spiritual then others. Its all in your perceptions of the experience.

ah.. your replies make my post feel validated
i agree with 'its all how you treat the experience'
i have been to that empty realm where tripping was the only thing that seemed real, and eventually now acceptance to and love of the whole of my reality.
i believe there are right times for everything and you just have to connect with and listen to your heart to figure out when those times are.
i also think it's easy to bullshit and confuse yourself

yes there is no escape from reality......
There are only escapes from your PERSPECTIVE on reality, and even most of those are still usually pretty close to your originally-programmed perspective on things.

The only real escape is death.
Everything else is just a shift be it temporary or permanent.
As far as the "original" programming goes... that term is quite loaded.
You have to settle some fundamentals before you begin to argue about "original" programming.

I find them to be more spiritual that listening to Jerry Falwell babble. I don't think halluncenagens are an escape from reality, to me they to put you more into reality. Escapist drugs are more like alcohol, heroin are other drugs that decrease your awareness.

It's both, sacred experiences are nothing more than chemical changes in the brain. That doesn't mean those experiences aren't special to some people. Personally psychedelics helped me towards the path I chose, and got me interested in altered states of consiousness from drugs to meditation.
