Salvia divinorum, a hallucinogenic plant that some have compared with LSD, is now banned in South Dakota.
Gov. Mike Rounds announced Wednesday he has signed into law a measure that takes effect immediately to ban possession of the new drug.
Officials said the new drug has been gaining in popularity since it first began to be distributed in the United States in recent years. Other states also have been outlawing the plant.
HB1090 makes possession of 2 ounces or less of Salvia divinorum a Class 1 misdemeanor, carrying a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $2,000 fine. Possession of more than 2 ounces would be a Class 6 felony with a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $4,000 fine.

California, many other places across the country, much of the rest of the world: Prohibition doesn't work! Wow, we're coming to our senses. How silly of us to prohibit a relatively harmless plant.
Many US states: Oh, wait, except that salvia shit. Ooh, and we can use overblown hype and empty rhetoric to help ban it, just like we did so successfully with pot!
And they have the balls to call us stupid and lazy. Listen up, you clueless fucks: The only reason the vast majority of people who are using this plant do so is because you've already made all the softer shit illegal.

There is almost no similarity to LSD.

So people will get a felony rap for growing a couple plants in their garden?
Sounds like an expensive way to ruin someones life for no reason at all on the taxpayer's dime.
I blame the South Dakota drug reform movement for letting this happen, they must have been sleeping on the job.

The best thing to come out of the whole experience of salvia being in the news, for me, is to know firsthand and intimately, what a bunch of lies is being fed to the public every day through the 'news'. I don't believe anything the media churns out anymore, and tend to avoid it.
I've been surrounded by salvia for the last decade...and have done it a handful of times. Give me some nice clean fluff any day over salvia.
At least they didn't make it Schedule 1 like some other states.

what they did in cali for salvia was a great thing, it sounds like its banned but its not at all, its perfectly legal AS LONG as you're 18, thats how it should be.

that's the thing, i think that salvia is one of the few exceptions to the "prohibition doesn't work" rule, which makes me sad.

I was with a bunch of friends a few weeks ago and I learned a lot from the two trips I had that night.
In the first trip everyone in the room turned into a roof to a building that was part of some kind lot. What this taught me is that friends are like roofs. Where a roof attempts to protect you, the best it was constructed, from the natural elements; friends protect you, the best the relationship was developed, from the harsh elements of life.
The second trip I had was on a 10X extract. On my trip, the room turned into a beautifully lit city, huge sky-scrapers, bustling streets, and almost "too" cluttered. In this trip, I was a cruise ship that was docked at the city's port. What the trip revealed to me is that I am that ship, the city is preparation for my journey through life (the ocean), and how at this moment in time I haven't truly started my life yet (because the ship hasn't set sail).
These two trips helped me realize some deep things about my life. Especially the second trip in knowing that my life truly hasn't taken off yet... I can only hope that Maryland will follow Cali and Maine in regulating to 18+
