IV nutrient supply

In my shroom research, I came upon a little tek (don't remember where) that suggested an IV setup of Glucose water slowly dripping into a colonized cake. The tek suggested that he was able to sustain a cake with flushes for a long time. Does this have any merit? If so, why has it not been explored more?

My guess would be that the possiblity of contamination would be greatly increased with such a setup.

Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains. Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

I have a nice supply of unused IV bags laying around for some reason. Maybe my monkey will try it out sometime.

Even though glucose is a fungi nutrient. Adding glucose in such a manner would almost certainly increase the odds of contamination, dramaticly. Because adding any more than the fungi could digest immediantly, would create excess & that excess would be a perfect site & nutrient for contams to flourish in/on. 6T

What if instead of dripping the glucose on it, you stick the IV into the cake, that would reduce the contamination, because the mycelium would be able to ward off some of or all the bacteria.

That's what I was thinking also. If you want to try it, plug the IV tubing directly into the cake. Like the straw tek.

Steal them from hospitols. Seriously, they put these IV bags everywhere to tempt people like us... Fuck, they even put them on metal poles like "Here, take one... we have plenty" Occasionally you'll find a person attached to the other end of the needle... it's ok, your mushrooms will live longer with it and make you happy, while they will live longer and not make you happy.

I can most likely get people IV bags for a small fee. Possibly even a print. One problem is it's not always easy to get a empty one. I'll check into it today. PM me if you are interested

Go to one of the plasma centers where they pay you to harvest your plasma and tell them you wish to be paid in glucose bags plus you need to keep the needle and line they stick in you.

My friend found a soy sauce bottle that fits nicley into his PC, and also has a cap that can have a tube inserted into it. Then he took a needle from one of his syringes and put it into the other end of the tube. The only problem is air exchange into the bottle. An IV works because the bag doesn't need to hold it's shape like a bottle does. However, if I have air going into the bottle to replace the liquid, it would need to be filtered (I would think) otherwise contaminants could enter the bottle and start consuming the glucose. Unless this has been tested to death, and is guarenteed to fail, I think it might be worth working on. But then again, I'm just a friend of a newbie.

Now I have a question, that IV isn't just glucose, or is it? I thought it also had salts and other stuff to keep someone alive. I'm sure that the nutritional requirements of a human are different from a mushroom cake, but would it kill the cake? Wouldn't we need to make our own glucose solution?

The IV is just the hardware. All kinds of things can be put into an IV bag.
