found shrooms plz help
    #996531 - 10/27/02 12:07 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

hi, ok I know this is not the way to get a shroom identified, but I have no cam right now. I'm in florida, and in the regular compost pile I have consisting of grass clippings and household table scraps, some shrooms have showed up that look similar to the cyans. The caps are so wavy that they have in some cases completely inverted and you can see only the gills. the caps are brown with just a hint of red and the gills are the same. color. the stalk is lacking any veil, and is a lighter brown color. However I see no bluing. I don't wanna get my hopes up, but is there any chance they are hallogens? I'm not about to eat them without positive id, so do you think I should pursue this further and see if i can get a cam or whatever, take a print and all, or can you already tell what I found is worthless? I'm hoping some good species found it's way to the compost somehow. Probably not. LOL

Take a print, but with no blueing, they probably arent active.

If you are refering to Ps. Cyans they are not, their substrate (where they gorw) must be wood not compost.
The cyans that grow on compost are Copelandia Cyanescens but their cap and stem are white not brown and they usually bruise blue.
It could be some sort of inactive panaeolus by your description, take a spore print to narrow down some species.

Hahahaha... HALOGENS... I like that one. "Hey u guyz, iz there chanz i find some xenon grow in mi compost pile? I talk 2 sum dude who said xenon was gud 2 fukkcup!"

You did not find Ps. cyans in florida, much less growing from a compost pile. They grow in the Pacific North West only. Do a little bit of research before you ask questions like these and you'll be able to answer your own questions.

Damn i wish light bulbs grew from my compost pile.

As far as them being a hallucinogenic, I have no clue. Spore print would help.

They don't sound like anything active. Go ahead and take a spore print and we'll try to ID them, but don't get your hopes up.

I can't resist yanking your chain. The Halogens are Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine, and Astatine (I can't believe I can still do that from memory - I was a chemistry geek once). You're thinking of the Noble Gases.

Happy mushrooming!
