Cool Mist not working????
    #995932 - 10/27/02 01:07 AM (19 years, 4 days ago)

Newbie here using "Robitussin Natural Cool Moisture Humidifier" on (13x14.5x12)" cooler for 6 cakes.  Humidifier runs ALL day and there is 3/8" hole in bottom side of terr. for CO2 venting.  Temp. is steady at 76 degrees but RH only reaches about 75%.  Funny thing though, humidifier goes through water like crazy.  Why won't this shit work??????

Is the lid on the container tightly?
Is there condensation on the walls?

What kind of humidity gauge are you using? Cheap ones are generly inaccurate at high rh end of the scale.

i had the same problem with my cool mist, it could be the humidifier, it could be the humidity gauge...
i started using perlite + coolmist to be safe....
perlite provides constant humidity, and the coolmist is on a timer to provide fresh air.....
tho its not working as well as i thought, there are some areas in the fruiting chamber (the corners) that arent getting gas exchange.... (the cakes in that part of the terrarium have skinny retarded fruit, whereas the cakes in the center of the terrarium fruit perfectly)
im thinking i may need to make some baffles inside the terrarium to direct air flow around....
.

It's most likely your humidifier. If it uses the wick thing it won't work. If you read the instructions it probably says that the humidity won't pass 60% in a room. Get the KAZ/Vicks. It is not only a humidifier, but also an air purifier. IT has a filter that it sucks air through. Another thing to look at is the diameter of the hose you are using. It should be atleast 3/4 inch. An inch is good.
To the guy who is using the coolmist and perlite maybe you can use an aquarium air pump that's on all day or a computer fan that has an adapter you can plug in.
