I understand your reasoning but I'm sticking with quebecensis on this one.

Me too.

The guilartensis I found didn't show ALL of the characteristics one would expect from it. Not every specimen of every species will conform to the exact description of a species.

Considering how rare and unstudied quebecensis are, they might have traits that haven't been recorded.

Lastly, the smaller specimens in that quebecensis picture DO resemble some of the OP's pics. The OP's mushrooms also resemble the quebecensis pic in PMOTW.

Time flies when you're having fun.  I've always respected your ID skilz, Danny.  But sometimes your calls knock me to the ground.  You come out from left field and tag the mushroom on the head when no one else even thinks of it.  It's cool as hell when you do that.

P.quebecensis are nearly hemispheric at first..
should we digress and ignore this feature also?

We should ignore everything until a microscopic examination is done because no one here is familiar enough with this mushroom to give it a positive species ID.

No matter what it is, its a good and rare find.

Ignorance is bliss eh?
No one is doubting this is a rare and important find, its  been said several times.
We can however, debate the macroscopic features and learn something (hopefully) in the process.
Its easy to say you think this mushroom is this or that, but without saying why you think so, your just guessing.
Intelligent debate involves backing up thoughts with evidence.

Cespitose, now its gets more interesting. You can see an umbo.

I officially have no idea what this is.

I hadnt seen that pic before. nice!
caerulipes does seem the best match so far, but why are they all so small?

1-3.5 cm broad(Stamets). They seem to fall within that range.

Unless the macromorphology has wide variations those mushrooms are not P. caerulipes.  Roy's photo and yours have both been identified as P. caerulipes here.  Where did you find your photo identified as P. quebecensis?

As far as I'm concerned, being the only other person who has found this from the Shroomery, the only thing this mushroom has going for it is the location, habitat and the season.  Where's the umbo?  There isn't one.  Alexander Smith found lots of P. caerulipes in Michigan.

There certainly is an umbo in that last photo, also lack of an umbo alone wouldnt rule out caerulipes.
It is at least in the same section and most likely caerulipes, it is known to have a large variation according to the description.

search flickr for caerulipes and you'll get an idea of the mess involved.
Some of the mycologists on there dont know as much as they think they do.
I could go into more detail, but at this point, it feels redundant.
