My memory is BACK!

Okay, so i have had issues with memory for YEARS, i am horrible with names, where my keys are, even what the hell i was doing 5 minutes ago. Its an issue, has been for as long as i can remember...
but suddenly about 2 weeks ago, It was back, amazingly so, i remembered the names of bank tellers i had just seen, i could tell you spot on where almost anything was in my or my gf's house, even if i had not seen it in 2 or 3 days. Amazing turn around.
So, I was wondering what it could be. I havent changed much in my life, at the time that this happened, i was still eating, drinking (beer) as much as usual, and smoking as much pot (i recently quit, but it hasn't changed anything)
The only change is that I have started drinking LOTS of tea, green, black, 4 or some mugs a day. Could this solely be the reason for the recent memory increase? it has been the only change i have made...

im not complaining, it just seems so odd that tea itself could be responsible for such a turn around in memory function..
cause and effect would suggest that something caused the change.

The two main components of green tea that are thought to work on improving memory are polyphenols and a particular type of polyphenol called flavonoids. Polyphenols are substances found in plants that are often responsible for their coloring. It is the antioxidative properties of polyphenols that are seen to be an advantage in preventing memory loss. Flavonoids, as seen in FiText Box: Figure 2. Typical flavonoid structure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flavonoid)gure 2, are a secondary plant metabolite that is also seen to have antioxidative properties. The most active polyphenol in green tea is (-)-epigalochatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). EGCG inhibits neuronal loss in two ways. It decreases the production of Beta-amyloid (Aβ), which forms proteins that can develop into plaques in the brains of Alzheimer's patients (Okello, 2004). It also decreases neuronal loss due to polyphenol (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (MPTP), which is a potent neurotoxin that specifically affects dopamine production and receptors. The antioxidative properties of polyphenels are also what is believed to cause many of the other health benefits of green tea because nearly all of the conditions that green tea is able to help are caused by free radicals in the body which come as a result of oxidative stress (Levites 2001).
The brain is particularly susceptible to free radical damage because of its high metabolic rate. The high use of oxygen during the metabolic processes leads to the generation of a large number of free radicals, which are molecules that have unpaired electrons. When these molecules with unpaired electrons try to bond to other molecules, it causes a bond in the second molecule to break in order to create an electron pair. This series of events can cause a chain reaction that can eventually lead to cell damage. The body's natural defense against free radicals comes from antioxidants, which donate an electron to end the chain reaction. The most common forms of antioxidants in the body are vitamins E and C. Green tea has proven to be a source many additional antioxidants and this is why it is beneficial in stopping cell degeneration. One of the reasons that green tea is so beneficial in stopping this degeneration in neuronal cells is that EGCG has been shown to be present in the brain, meaning that it is able to enact its antioxidative affects on the free radicals causing damage in the brain.

A quick look on google scholar showed some research with tea catechins showing that it can improve memory, can suppress age related degradation in the brain, and ameliorate oxygen-related nerve cell injuries... in mice. I couldn't find any human studies. But it shows promise.
Regardless of how it's happened for you, congrats!

Why don't you think quitting the ganj has anything to do with it?
In my experience, weed zaps unnecessary memory function for me. Like teller names or stuff like how many pink louvers on the neighbor's mailbox.
BTW, congrats!

There are many compounds in tea which increase cognition, such as theanine. There are also compounds in tea which lower the negative effects of alcohol on the body, including the brain.

The same exact thing happened to me. I didn't really connect the two, but my memory did start improving dramatically at the same time I started to drink tea daily. I surprised myself at school yesterday when I remembered massive amounts of info in my Biology class. I have also become more aware and observant. I also have not stopped smoking weed, but my awareness continues even when I'm stoned. Before I started drinking the tea smoking made my mind really foggy and feel bad...now it's great too!
@brainchemistry- what is that aquatic creature in your signature. A friend showed me his and I forgot the name of them(before tea;)) and it's been driving me insane lately! I tried to look it up on the internet, but it's hard with just a description.
