Type Of Grow Set up?
    #9957650 - 03/12/09 11:00 AM (15 years, 20 days ago)

So I have a simple question. What type of grow set up would a vision kit be considered? Its a double tub set up, with water in the bigger tub that holds a fish tank heater, then a smaller tub sits inside of it.. What would you call this type of set up?

And before anybody says something about buying kits, I already have bought myself everything necessary to make at least 2 grow set ups. For about $3o less then the vision kit costs...

That sounds an awful like a Tub-in-Tub Incubator used to speed up colonization in jars.

They're garbage and cause far more problems than they're worth.

How well would something like that work for as incubator?

It would work great as an incubator - but like I said, incubators are, nine times out of ten, a waste of time. Some experienced cultivators swear by them, but they have the experience and knowledge to keep them tweaked to work just right. Personally, I've never and will never use one because they create an environment that favors contaminants over mushroom mycelium. They're also more likely to cause bacterial bloom or dry out your substrate.

Colonizing mycelium creates its own heat and is more than happy to sit at room temperature.

Why would you use an incubator as a fruiting chamber?

Incubators are worthless unless you live in the north pole. Colonize in room temperature.

As for fruiting chambers, make either a shotgun FC or a poorman's pod.

I just Google'd the kit you mentioned. It's actually not that much more expensive than if you bought all the stuff yourself, so at least it's not a major ripoff.

As far as fruiting chambers go, definitely go with a shotgun FC if you're using PF Tek jars, and make sure you drill holes on each side.

I understand that, but the thing is, right now the a/c in my house is broken, wont get fixed till around April. I live south of the Mason/Dixon line but its not quite 80 degrees all day yet. And I live in an old house right now, its about 72 degrees in my home, and in the afternoon is when the temperature will rise up to around 75, and about 69-72 degrees at night. I at this moment I have the means to replicate how the Vision kits is built. What are the pros and cons of that type of set up verses a shotgun FC? And giving the temperature situation i am in, would a shotgun FC be the right way to go?

I live in the SE US and those temperatures are perfect for colonization without an incubator.

A shotgun FC is cheap ($10 for a sterlite tote, borrow a power drill from someone, and $5 for a bag of perlite that can be re-used over and over again), simple (to build and maintain, simply fan it out a few times a day with the lid to maintain good FAE), and effective.

Keep in mind that a fruiting chamber is for your PF-style cakes after they've been fully colonized, birthed, and dunk 'n' rolled.

I went and looked up the product you were asking about, on the internet.

It is a TIT, a Tub in Tub incubator/ fruiting chamber.
with all the stuff needed to start a grow, except spores.

those vision kit's are pretty spendy for what you are getting.

I love the TIT's that I use.
It gets pretty cold here during the winter, so I use a few.
So I set mine at 81 degrees F. and my jars colonize pretty damn fast.

Well, the way you described it, it's an incubator, and you can not use an incubator as a fruiting chamber. A shotgun or PmP, either will work.

Yeah like i said, Everything necessary to grow for awhile has already been purchased, far cheaper then anything off the internet.. Most expensive item, Spores and PC.. which are easier to find then Perlite..  But I still feel as if I have a constant temperature problem.. would the fluctuation of temp cause problems? I

Since acquiring the name of this type of set up, I have since done some research. Thank you everybody for your advice/opinions.
