just looked at my cakes today... PINS!!
just starting, but it looks like a decent pin set on a couple already.

theres also some discoloration like in this pic... although it doesnt look as bad in person as it does here. more like its a kidna tinted color on the normal growth then something else growing there.
the cake doesnt smell too BAD though, im not too familliar with what things are suppsoed to smell like though.

that blueish tint looks like a lack of hydration, if it doesn't begin to fruit with those others another 24 hr dunk and roll should help it,

well i slowed down on the misting because i herd that the kinda fluffy growth on some of the cakes was from too much moisture.

ill mist a little more again, hopefully ill have more pins soon :P

about 3-4 of the cakes are showing this dicoloration now.
I would definatly not call it a green color though...
more blue maybe a bit purple, so im thinking its bruising somehow.

I know i messed up spraying the other day... though it was on mist mode, but it was on... sniper mode?
anyways i ended up giving a cake a good spray accedently :S

but ive seen pics of cakes on here that i would have def thrown out that people said were fine... so hopefully things will work out.

looks like im gonna have a good pinset on at least a couple of the cakes anyways. growing fast now

That blue colour is bruising. Either you have handled your cake too roughly or it needs to be rehydrated. You should probably dunk it.

some more pics...
came home and saw some heavy bruising where some water drops had been sitting :<
brushed off the water with a piece of TP and tried to be more careful misting again, then decided to take some more pics :P

Wow, I can see the drops of water on your cakes in your pics... Just curious, how often are you fanning?

ok

well the first one in the pic there, where its all dark blue, had some pretty big water drops sittin on it in that spot all day.

same with the other blue spot where the big pin is.

i rupped the water off with a piece of TP and there was MAYBE the smallest hint of blueness on the TP, but not really.

im not trying to argue, but just think that might make a differnce.

thanks a lot for everyones time so far :>

EDIT:
I fan every time i mist, and then just periodicly.
I have a crap spray bottle and the pics were taken right after i sprayed the cakes, so the water had just settled.

definitely, settled water is the fastest way for contams to take hold, it may be nothing.

can someone with more experience give us some insight?

well... i just rubbed all the dark spots pretty good with some paper towel and no color came off im pretty sure, so im hoping their good.

still fruiting well though :P

its prolly just my crappy spray bottle bruising them, but could be something worse :S

Ahhh yes it can aswell be the spray bottle. Perhaps a lower setting?

That would be a darn great idea to steralize the bottle before usage.

That is indeed a dwelling place for bacteria and other contams.

Stay steralized, especialy while noticing other interesing "discoloration".

well i havent seen any other colors but this dark blueness.

and it doesn't really look like a contam compaired to the pics in the FAQ section. they look more kinda fluffy and kinda like velvet maybe...
this looks exactly like the normal growth, just tinted a differnt color.

would be good to get someone like RR in here to tell me for sure though :/

... so how often do you fan then? Sorry I don't know how often you mist or what you mean by periodically.

Also, what is your setup with lighting?

There's some good info from RR at http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8468463 btw. Just search for contams or bruising if you don't want to read all the notes.

The picture with the dark bruising isn't healthy. I'm personally not convinced it's contamination, but more like dead tissue. Wet spots left on the mushrooms could result in bacterial blotch. Fortunately, blotch is confined to the mushrooms, so removing the contaminated mushrooms, then misting with peroxilated water is good.
I think those pins are merely dead, but very soon to spread some nasty contams. Some of them look like they could already be rotting though.
Make sure your spray bottle has a real fine setting. The mist should float like a cloud for a few seconds. Indirectly mist the cakes by spraying the walls of the FC. Keep the vermiculite on top of the cake moist, but not soaking. you don't really want to mist your cakes so much... Fanning every time you mist, after you mist preferably, is a good idea. Fanning AT LEAST four times a day should give you some good mushrooms! :mushroomgrow:
As for the blue spot, remove the pins carefully with tweezers. Make sure the ENTIRE pin is removed. Watch the spot carefully and make sure it doesn't spread; this could indicate a contamination. Right now, I think it looks dead. The blue is very bright and looks like the typical hue of blueing. Maybe a trusted cultivator could confirm any info
Good luck on your first gorw! for the most part, looks like a great success! :goodluck:

took some more pics today.

wiped some of the dark spots with some paper towel again and nothing came off still.

also the only thing i can smell is mushrooms, but my nose is a bit stuffed up so cant really rely on that.

anyways, some more pics:

just saw the responces right above the last one, missed them somehow :P

I'll try to find some tweezers to take off those dead pins, prolly a good idea.

I've been fanning up to about once an hour or more when i get bored...
ive started spraying the sides when the condensation starts to go away also.

thanks for showing interest :>
