"Brands like Glad Cling Wrap or Handi-Wrap are LDPE-based. Saran Premium Wrap, a newer version of Saran Wrap, is based on LDPE as well."

"However, LDPE does not possess the same barrier qualities to oxygen, aroma, and flavor molecules that vinylidene chloride copolymers do, making the new formulation a lower quality plastic wrap, as it is not as useful in protecting from spoilage or flavor loss."

"PVdC has better barrier properties than the more-permeable LDPE, making the foods wrapped in it less subject to freezer burn. However, LDPE is substantially cheaper and easier to make."

Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plastic_wrap

Any chance I could put in a request for some pics of HE plates?

I'm sure I could look some up, but why not keep the thread going

Ps. Cube GT, pics aren't label, so i can't remember what order these transfers went in...
I'll see if i can find any more pics, i know i did some agar cultures of Pl. ostreatus, L. edodes, H. erinaceous, and A. aegerita...

Guys. When you take pics. Shine the light in from the side of the petri dish to highlight the mycelium for the picture. it works a hell of a lot better than shinning it from the back of the plate.

Like this?

(PS, this was my shameless opportunity to ask what kind of mycelium you guys think this is.... B+,  King oyster, or HE)

It's not Hericium. I would guess King or cubensis.  Is the mycelium on the wedge you inoculated it with reaching for the top of the plate. If so I would guess Pl. eryngii.

I always thought it would be impossible to tell this early from spores without a microscope, but I would guess cube or oyster having only seen pics of HE here, and the likeness to all my spore plates (but I wipe the spores in an "s" pattern not a straight line, it spreads them out more and makes it easier to cut out the faster growing colonies)

All the spores I have worked with looked like this at the start, the only macroscopic feature to differentiate them was rate of growth and reaction to temperature.

i like the light from behind better, but that's just my preference.  My pics were taken with my shitty camera though, could def get some better ones.  Just wanted to add what i had... i have a few more, possibly better ones about, i'll check.

I've done agar work with cubes (not B+), hericiums (erinaceous), and pleurotus(but not kings, just ostreatus).  It's def not heri eri, and doesn't look like oyster myc to me.  It's B+! do i win a prize? hehe

Lighting from behind is good to show sectors in the mycelium and other similar features but bad for showing the true look of a specific culture.

Its best to shine the light from the side on the top of the plate to show what the mycelium really looks like.

Its hard to tell the true look of a culture with back lighting.

I have had this shiitake culture laying around for quite some time. Its old but is a good example of a line of inhibition. Sporeworks on the left and Anno on the right dukin it out.

Does anyone have a picture of South American growing out on Agar?
I'm growing some out from spores but they got this strange tan colour and velvety texture. Used to white, this is throwing me for a loop.
Are gold or tan colours common in any other species of cubes?
I'd post a picture but my camera only has auto focus, it won't focus past the lid at the agar and all the pictures look like crap.
