Blue mark gone, safe to birth?
    #7358542 - 09/01/07 10:50 AM (16 years, 6 months ago)

One of may jars had a slight bluish tint among the mycelia while it was still colonizing. Now the jar is fully colonized and the mark has gone. I presume this was either a contamination that was overcome or it was slightly bruised mycelia that healed. I have decided the cake is safe to birth. Does anybody agree/disagree?

My only reservation is if it was a contamination and that toxins could now be residing in the cake.

A slight bluish tint isn't contamination. When you get mold contamination in cakes, there's no mistaking it.

Thank you for the peace of mind. Do you think it might have been bruising then?

SWIM has noticed small blue marks on some of his cakes. This is probably just bruising.  When you get mold you won't mistake it like in the pics above.  Its just like the mold you see on rotting food.  Sometimes it is white and can initially look like mycelium, but then it spreads much faster and isn't as fluffy, more like a cobweb type of appearance.
