QFT. apt-get rules hard.

Does Sabayon still use the same ghey colors (neon green, pink, yellow, brown, uaaaahh!)? When I installed it on my late Stinkpad about 3 years ago I nearly caught eyeball cancer from just looking at the splash screen. Terrible. Apart from that it's a pretty good distro. Personally, I like Ubuntu (Debian is OK, but I don't like the GNU/FOSS-Taliban attitude), Suse and Fedora for the "right from the get-go" distros and Gentoo for customized systems.

Im using the 'MCE lite' edition with gnome, and it is a grey, creme, blue color theme, seems fine to me, very nice and neutral, other than the blue.  But, i could understand how colors like that would be annoying...

peace

Yah, the wikipedia says nothing about that, and I don't see how that's remotely likely.

wow, seriously?

to the original poster - i'd recommend going with a debian based distro for your first install. i'd also recommend looking up your local area linux users group (just search "<your city> linux users group" - i'm sure there is one nearby unless you live in rural uzbekistan); while there are a TON of resources online, it is always helpful to have a physical person who can walk you through troubleshooting, etc.

going to LUGS just makes one feel stupid. It's like going to physics conventions to learn algebra. LUGs are all about sysadmins jerking off on eachother about how awesome of an admin or programmer you are.
or at least the NYC ones are.
the bsd users groups are the LAST thing i would recommend to new users.

 actually, from my experience, that is just about spot on. the only reason i recommended them is usually there are a few people who make for good contacts/support outside of the LUG meetings.
